– a paradise in the Caribbean

This will be the fourth time Sand Akvarellresor (Sand Watercolor Journeys) arranges "Watercolor
Workshop and Adventure" in the Caribbean island Dominica. Ten days of watercolor workshops
and adventures will be mixed with four unscheduled days with individual activities, painting or
just relaxing.
Björn Bernström will be our tutor and we will paint on the beach and by the river, at high altitudes
and in pristine rainforests. We paint so to speak, in the middle of our adventure!

Björn Bernström
Björn Bernström has been a full-time artist for six years. He gives courses and workshops around the
world, for example in Australia, the US, Greece, Italy and in the Nordic countries.
Björn will be our tutor at the “Watercolor Workshop and Adventure” in Dominica.
Björn has his studio just outside Stockholm in Sweden. He has held numerous solo exhibitions and
has participated in group exhibitions and has juried salons both in Sweden and abroad. Björn also has
various jury missions, including the National Watercolor Salon and the Autumn Salon in Sweden and
he is, since 2014, a member of the board of the Nordic Watercolour Society.

Accommodation
The Hibiscus Valley Inn is located up in the mountains with the rain forest on our doorstep. In
Dominica there are no dangerous animals and up here the climate is fresh and pleasant. If you want
to take a dip, we have the Pagua River just a few minutes away.
All three nature bungalows are built in a traditional way with two double bedrooms in each. Rooms
have electricity, fan, safety box, en suite bathroom and shower and a lovely porch with hammock
and small seating area. To sit here in the evening when darkness has fallen listening to all the sounds
from the rain forest, is an experience in itself.
Hibiscus Valley Inn stick to the eco-concept as far as possible; fresh spring water from the mountains
that we can drink, solar power for hot water, organic vegetables and of course they recycle their
garbage.
The restaurant serves local dishes with an international touch, organic food with a fixed daily menu.
For dinner we are served either fish, chicken or vegetarian dishes. Everything is prepared with
finesse and with local or locally produced ingredients. For our full-day excursions we will bring picnic
lunches. The bar can arrange rum tasting if we wish. “Rum punch” is a special Caribbean drink worth
trying. Over the six workshop days we stay with full board (drinks not included) and the four
unscheduled days include breakfast. Any extra meals, wine, beer or other beverages are set up on
the bill and is paid at check-out.

About Dominica
Dominica became an independent nation in 1978 and should therefore not be confused
with the Dominican Republic.
Dominica is only about 750 square kilometres (290 sq mi). About 3 000 of the indigenous
carib indian population (kalinago) live in an indian reservation at the northeast side. The
total population on Dominica is about 70 000.
Far from the mass tourism found on many of the other Caribbean islands, Dominica has focused on ecotourism. The dramatic
and mountainous nature with its pristine rainforests and deserted beaches attracts tourists who want to experience something
extra and beyond the ordinary.

Travel
You will plan, book and pay your own trip to Dominica.
Note: When you have sent in your registration for the workshop we will ask you to wait
to book your flights until you have received a confirmation from Sand Akvarellresor that
the workshop will be conducted. This requires eight participants.

Course fee
The course fee is 12 975 SEK (Swedish crowns) including registration fee. A
registration fee of SEK 3000 shall be paid no later than 7 days from the date of
th
invoice and the final payment of SEK 9975 shall be paid before by January 11 2016.
The number of participants is limited to 12 people in double rooms in nature
bungalows.
Registration is binding and paid registration fee is not refundable if you need to
cancel. However, you can hand over your place to a new participant.
The fee includes watercolor workshop and adventures according to the program, local English speaking guides/drivers, site
passports, entrance fees, tourist tax and transfers to and from the airport in Dominica. Accommodation in double rooms in
nature bungalows and full board excluding drinks during the six course days. Breakfast is included the four course free days.
Additional costs
 Meals during the four unscheduled days and arrival/departure days as well as drinks during the entire stay are paid at

 Additional adventures or activities booked at Hibiscus Valley Inn are paid at check-out.
 Departure tax is paid at the airport upon departure from Dominica. About $ 25 US (April 2015).
 Each person brings their own art materials. There is no art shop on Dominica.
 Travel expenses for the trip to and from Dominica.
The Hibiscus Valley Inn accepts both Visa and MasterCard.
