Newsletter June 2015
President’s Letter-Mike Hessler WWW.AnchorBoatClub.com Anchor Boat Club First, I’d like to apologize for the newsletter being so late. It is my fault for failure to submit a column to Mike Egan in a timely manner. What a great cancer fundraiser we had this year. From preliminary estimates I have been told that this donation to the Simmons Cancer Foundation might be our biggest yet. While I would like to thank all the volunteers and supporters by name I know I would miss some and I don’t want to do that so I will just say THANK YOU to everyone that participated in whatever way. We couldn’t have done it without you. The hit of the auction was the offering of a week’s stay at a condo In Florida donated by Mr. Les Pauley. He was generous enough to offer it not once but 6 times I believe and then donated all the proceeds to Simmons. What a generous donation and thank you Les from all of us. As most of you know there has been talk of covering the patio with an enclosure similar to what the Sangamo Surf did a few years back. There seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether we should do a basic covering now and add on as funds permit or whether we should go all out right away and do a more complete version which would include expansion of an additional 10 feet to the East. We have received bids anywhere from $8800 to $12,000. At the last officers meeting because there was such a wide range of opinions even among the officers Bill Schreck made a motion to appoint a committee to study the bids, the available finances and the wish of the members as to which version they want. Hopefully the study will be completed shortly and a recommendation President’s Letter-Continuted Anchor Boat Club brought before the membership for a vote by the late summer. I have received complaints lately about our members inviting themselves to eat the food that has been brought to the club for members or private parties. Common courtesy dictates that you don’t just go back to the kitchen and help yourself without being invited by the people hosting the party. One of the things the fire department inspector made us do was to take the numeric pads off the north and east doors. These doors now need to be locked by a key when closing up the club. We are looking into installing self locking locks much like the back door so as to have it locked all the time and not have to be locked each and every time with a key. Enjoy these nice warm days with a refreshing adult beverage at the club. We have many new tropical and boat drinks available for the summer months. See you at 407 East Lake Dr. soon I hope. Grounds A few friendly reminders. Well, actually just one. For those of us that park boat trailers on the grounds, we are responsible for maintaining the grass/weeds around the trailer. I forget about this, too. I went out last week and cleared around mine and several others. There are weeds and grass growing inside the trailers as well. It will take 20 minutes to clear it out, and if you go every couple weeks, less time that that. Wow! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to all the people who helped make the Anchor Boat Club 3rd Annual Cancer Fundraiser a success! You may have donated your time to work the event, played bocce ball or volley ball, bid on live and silent auctions or had food and drinks. You may have donated money, food, auction items or gave us discounts. It all adds up and we appreciate all of you! We don’t have final numbers in yet, but, I already know we had a record breaking year! We couldn’t have done it without you! Also, I would like to thank the planning committee for all of your hard work! Loved working with you! It was a fun and emotional day and it was worth it! Thanks to all!
