Foundation Stage
In FS, Mr Metters, the new caretaker, has visited to
crack open the coconuts on their desert island.
Year 1
The children have started learning all about the Royal family and are hoping
that the new member will arrive during this topic.
Year 2
The children are fascinated this week as the frogspawn is in the
process of producing tadpoles.
Year 3
The children have begun their Robot topic.
They have designed and made an advert for him / her.
Year 4
The classes have started their new science topic of ‘sound’ and have done
some extra PE training this week, as well as looking at stories about the past.
Year 5
Some of the children have been bread tasting this week.
Year 6
It’s all been about reading comprehension and
persuasive writing in Y6 this week.
Other news
Our new Milk Tuck Shop has been an instant success, with children enjoying
their milk – setting them up for the rest of the day. Mr Sheard came in to do an
assembly on Jesus. Mrs Robinson and the children practised singing ‘rounds’
in assembly. The new Head Boys and Girls were chosen – see over the page
for more. The new caretaker, Mr Metters has been working hard to improve the
building and the grounds. The children have played on the school field and
finally, Mrs Crossley and her team did a fabulous training session for all the
other staff about what it’s like to work in Foundation Stage – and now
EVERYONE wants to work in there!!!
Phew! What a busy ‘getting back into the swing of it’ kind of school!
Costello Sports Competition
Mrs Robinson is trying to decide whether to enter our school for this or not this year.
Other schools have very keen parent volunteers running training sessions all year
round but with so many demands on staff time and children and parents who lead
busy lifestyles, it gets harder each year to get children to commit to coming and is
very stressful. What do you think? Please drop her a line to let her know.
Last week’s Mrs Robinson’s Pop Feedback
We asked you: It will soon be St George’s Day and the children will be allowed to wear the uniform of
their Uniformed Group on that day. (Not sporting groups or teams I’m afraid.) Does your child belong
to Rainbows, Brownies, Cubs, or Boys’ Brigade etc? If so, can you please tell me, what do you / your
child feel is the best thing about belonging to such clubs?
We had 14 replies. Thank you so much to those people for taking the time to respond.
Our children seem to belong to Girls’ Brigade, Boys’ Brigade, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Rainbows. The
benefits of belonging to these clubs seem to be similar, in that they have varied activities, camping, socialising, craft,
games, helping others, learning about responsibility and community, leadership, working towards badges, discipline,
independence, a sense of belonging / pride in the uniform and teamwork.
Finally – this is our favourite answer - as one parent put it – “Anything that gets them out from in front of the TV or
Ipad, running around, letting off steam and keeping fit through sports / activity without having to play out on the street
is worth every penny of the subs we pay.”
Remember - St George’s Day – Thursday 23rd April – children may come in the uniform of these
groups if they so wish.
