Happy New Year and welcome Chapter P members and friends to 2007, can you believe it? How time flies when you’re having FUN with Chapter P. We would like to thank Liz and her staff for a great 2006, we think the concept of ride and eat was taken to a whole new level and we had a lot of fun activities, too. We are looking forward to being your chapter directors this year and together with our great staff we will plan a jam-packed year of rides and activities. We welcome ideas and suggestions of things you would like to do this year, whether it be ride destinations, places to eat, or events we could all attend. The best way to have the most fun is to get involved. We are looking forward to another great year. Ride often, have fun, be safe, Bill & Pam Chapter Directors January Birthdays 3 Gary Berry 7 Larry Jensen 11 Doyle Woods 20 Diane Wood 22 Ryan Caulley 31 Larry Eitelman Anniversaries 1 Dave & Cheryl Ward 13 Dave & Wanda Jones 22 Virgil &Kathy Dupee 23 Joe & Jann Drehobl Dinner Rides January 5 Pepper’s Grill Claremore 12 El Miguay Claremore 19 McAlister’s Owasso 26 Ron’s Hamburgers Claremore February 2 El Jalapeno Collinsville 9 Jason’s Deli Tulsa 16 Spaghetti Warehouse Tulsa CHAPTER P RIDER EDUCATION I would like to say how very honored and pleased I am to be asked to be part of the Chapter P Rider Education Program. It is the rider education program that promotes the concepts that safe riding habits be taken seriously. As many before me have clearly stated, safety begins with education. I am reminded, of this fact: each time I participate in one of our adventures of how important it is to ride safe. We take pride in being part of GWRRA and pride of our Goldwings. We show our pride each day by the way we maintain and operate our bikes. But the most important pride is how safely we ride. My goal for 2007 will be to get as many members (including myself and co-rider) involved in the various Rider Education Level Programs so that Chapter P can become the best educated and safest riders in Oklahoma. With your help and support I know this goal can be obtained. Tire Pressure By James R. Davis As we are now into the colder months of the year I thought it appropriate to post a reminder about tire pressures and the effect of temperature on same. Stamped on the outside of many of your tires is a recommended tire pressure range (at least an upper limit). For longest tire life it is my recommendation that you strive to keep them at the higher limit of those recommendations (regardless of what your motorcycle owner’s manual might say to the contrary). Further, this pressure should be determined while the tires are cold – meaning, have not been used for couple of hours. Time and outside temperature affect the pressure within your tires. It is NORMAL for a tire to lose about 1 pound pre square inch (psi) per month. Outside temperatures affect your tire pressure far more profoundly. However, a tire’s pressure can change by 1 psi for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature change. As temperature goes so goes pressure. For example, if a tire is found to have 38 psi on an 80 degree mid-summer day, it could lose enough air to have an inflation pressure of 26 psi on a 20 degree day six months later. This represents a loss of 6 psi over six months and an additional loss of 6 psi due to the 60 degree temperature reduction. At 26 psi, your tire is severely under inflated and dangerous! There is nothing wrong with your tire if it behaves like this, of course. What is being illustrated there is that you MUST check your tire pressure on a regular basis (about once a week is reasonable) and to be particularly aware of it on cold days. He went to England while in the Air Force and married a local lass (Pam), brought her home and they settled in Dallas where they lived for over 30 years. They have only one son, Christopher Robin, who now lives in California. Bill bought his first Goldwing in 1990, a beautiful pearl white SE. They joined GWRRA in 1990 and got involved with Chapter B in Dallas. In 2002 they moved to Tulsa, returning to the point of Bill’s beginning. He took a job with Bob Howard’s Crown Auto working in the parts department. They found Chapter P to be active and fun to be around, so, got involved. First as day ride coordinator, then Treasurer, then Rider Educators, then Assistant Chapter Directors, now Chapter Directors. In October 2004 he replaced the 1990 Wing (showing more than 117,000 miles) with a new ‘05 bright silver GL1800. Pam is very involved with Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue. She will help you adopt a Golden Retriever in a heartbeat. The Dennys have bought 8 acres on Hwy 20, just 5 miles east of Claremore, and are planning to build a home this year (more room for more dogs). Supporting community needs has been designated a priority by Chapter P. Chapter P is continuing the support of the Manger Project. All members are encouraged to bring baby goods (diapers, diaper wipes, peanut butter, baby food, formula, etc.) and other goods a growing family needs. Please bring items to each meeting. A cash donation basket will also be available at the meeting. Thank you in advance for giving a hand up to others in need.
