STATES & TERRITORIES
New South Wales (NSW)
Tasmania (TAS)
Sydney is the capital and most populous state of Australia. It is
the financial hub of the country and home to landmarks such as
the Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach. NSW has a humid,
subtropical climate with warm summers and mild winters. Snow falls
on the mountains of NSW with popular skiing attractions such as
Perisher, Thredbo and Charlotte Pass.
Tasmania is an island state forming part of Australia. The state’s
capital is Hobart and offers a thriving art scene, a wide selection
of food and wine culture and a fascinating colonial and indigenous
history. Tasmania is recognised as a natural state due to its large,
unspoiled natural environment and is home to a number of reserves,
national parks and World Heritage Sites. Tasmania has a cool
temperate climate with winters receiving considerable snowfall.
Popular skiing destinations include Ben Lomond National Park and
Mount Mawson.
Victoria (VIC)
Victoria is Australia’s most densely populated state with Melbourne
being the second largest city behind Sydney. Melbourne is known for
its art, culture and alternative scene and is one of the most popular
destinations for international education. Victoria’s weather is varied
with hot summers and cool winters. Popular snow resorts include
Mount Buller, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.
South Australia (SA)
South Australia is popular for its stunning beaches, festivals, events
and its award-winning wine and estates. The capital of South
Australia is Adelaide, which has been voted as Australia’s most
liveable city. Adelaide is a hub for international food and dining with
an abundance of restaurants, pubs, cafes and entertainment venues.
Western Australia (WA)
With its remarkable weather and relaxed lifestyle, Western Australia
is often referred to as the ‘mini Los Angeles’. The capital of Western
Australia is Perth and being closer to South East Asia rather than its
sister states, Perth is home to a large international community. With
the mining boom having contributed to its strong economic growth,
Perth is fast becoming the most popular destination for travel and
migration, challenging both Melbourne and Sydney.
Northern Territory (NT)
Northern Territory offers some of the world’s most unique and natural
attractions such as the red sandy dessert of Alice Springs and the
Uluru or Ayers Rock. Darwin is it’s capital city and remains the
smallest and most northerly of the Australian capital cities. Like
Perth, Darwin’s proximity to South East Asia makes it a growing
choice for education and migration. Northern Territory enjoys a
tropical climate with a consistently warm to hot climate throughout the
year conducive to an active outdoor lifestyle.
Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
Australian Capital Territory, also known as the Federal Capital
Territory is home to Canberra, the capital city of Australia.
Canberra’s attractions include historic townships, Parliament and
government buildings, natural reserves, excellent wineries, worldclass arts and crafts and gourmet produce. Neighboured by New
South Wales, Canberra is only an hour’s drive from the bustling city
of Sydney. Over the years, Canberra has fast become a popular
choice for education and settlement and has grown into a vibrant and
cosmopolitan city.

Education
Education is Australia’s largest service export. Currently, more than
400,000 of international students are studying and living in Australia.
With a sophisticated educational system, a world-class academic
workforce and tech-savvy modern learning facilities, Australia is
one of the most sought after destinations for international students
seeking an internationally recognised qualification and an enriched
overseas learning experience.
International students are spoilt by plentiful choices with more than
one thousand universities, training colleges, English language
institutes and schools, and some 25,000 courses on offer.
Half of Australia’s universities are listed on the Times Higher
Education World University Ranking Top 400 in 2013 and 2014, and
five of these institutions are in the top 100.
Australia’s open and friendly culture, safe environment, harmonious
multicultural society readily welcome international students and
provide them with an ideal place for a life-changing experience.
Multiculturalism
Australia has a very diverse culture and lifestyle. Australia’s original
inhabitants, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, are the
custodians of one of the world’s oldest continuing cultural traditions.
Nowadays, most Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live in
cities and towns. Many people still remain on their traditional lands
and maintain aspects of their traditional lifestyles in a modern-day
Australia.
Today, with a population of 23 million, more than 20% of Australians
are born overseas and more than 40% are of mixed cultural origins.
Over 200 languages are spoken in Australia - after English, the most
popular are Italian, Greek, Cantonese, Arabic, and Mandarin.
Australian culture is as broad and varied as the country’s landscape.
Australia is multicultural and multiracial and this is reflected in the
country’s food, lifestyle and cultural practices and experiences.
Australia promotes a freedom of religion and facilitates the diverse
worship practices of its people through the establishment of places
of worship such as, Catholic and Anglican churches, Hindu, Sikh
and Buddhist temples, mosques and synagogues which are easily
accessible in major cities.
This diversity of influences creates a cultural environment in Australia
that is lively, energetic, innovative and outward looking.
