SUMMER VACATION ASSIGNMENT – 2015

Dear children,
The Summer Vacation is often taken as synonymous with fun and
frolics, getting up late in the morning, playing for longer hours with friends,
going on trips and watching fun-filled shows on television. But dear children,
there are a lot of things that you can do to make your vacation more
interesting and meaningful, along with doing all these fun and frolics. Here is
a “Summer Vacation Activity Treasure Box” for you which will mould you
for a better and successful forthcoming year. So, set out to hunt your Activity
Treasure Box now.
A few guidelines for your parents to make your long Summer break fruitful.

“ Knowledge is Power”. Therefore, encourage your child to cultivate
reading habit because it enhances the knowledge acquired as well as
develops the vocabulary, language skills and improves spellings.
“ A healthy mind lives in a healthy body”. So, encourage your child to
play outdoor games because sports instill discipline, generate sporting
spirits and channelize energy constructively. Also encourage him/her to
play board games as chess, Ludo, Carrom, etc.
“ Communication- the human connection – is the key to personal and
career success”. Therefore, converse with your child preferably in English
to help him/ her get comfortable with the language. Also encourage your
child to read children‟s magazines and story books.
Spend quality time with your child engaging him/ her in activities based
on enhancing his/her powers of observation and imagination.
Sensitize your child about the rich culture and heritage by watching
different informative channels like „ The National Geographic‟, „Animal
Planet‟, etc.
Encourage your child to do the activities himself /herself and fix a specific
time to do homework everyday.

1. Prepare a travel guide of your state. Your travel guide should include:
a) Map of your state
b) Main cities
c) Climate, Flora and Fauna
d) Transportation, rail, bus, ship
e) Customs
f) Hotels
g) Shopping
h) Tourist information office.

j) Sports
k) Places of tourist interest
2. Collect information about the crops which are grown in your state during the
summer and the winter seasons.

3. Know the names of the festivals that are celebrated in your state ( religious,
harvest and national ). Collect colourful pictures of all the festivals.
4. Take a diya and decorate it with paints and mirrors.
5. Visit the zoo with your parents. Observe the different animals in the zoo. Find
out
more information about five animals which you have seen in the zoo.
6. Draw a well labeled diagram of human digestive system by using wool, cotton,
match stick, etc.
7. Collect bits of cloth materials of different types from various places such as the

1. Read carefully and parse the following paragraph :Two best friends Adam and Edward were travelling together when they
came face to face with a very big bear. „Oh No!‟, said Adam then ran fast and
climbed a tree without thinking of his companion at all. Edward understood
that alone he was no match for Bruin the bear. He threw quickly himself down
on the ground and lay like a dead man.
Bruin, the bear came near him, sniffed at his nose and ears. The man
kept his courage, held his breath and kept still. Bruin, the bear thinking him
dead walked away slowly. Now, Adam came down hurriedly from the tree and
asked Edward, “Hey ! What did the bear wisher in your ear ? I saw him
putting his mouth close to your ear”.
“ Oh ! That‟s secret. Old Bruin advised me not to be friendly with those who
leave their friends when they are in danger”.

4. Buy charts of different shapes and paste them on a white chart paper and
show which shape shows which thing in your house.
5. Prepare the Indian and International place value chart in copy.
