Friday Flier 5.6.15 - Beer C of E Primary School
Beer C of E Primary School Mare Lane Beer, Seaton, Devon EX12 3NB Tel and Fax 01297 20077 Headteacher: Mr Martin O’Mahony Email:[email protected] www.beer-ce-primary.devon.sch.uk Chair of Governors: Mrs Jean Smith Friday 5th June 2015 32 Dear Parents, I hope you all had a great half term and feel refreshed and ready for the final half term of this academic year. The Year 5/6 children have certainly been blessed with the weather for their residential and activity days (please see the Rockley diary at the end of the flier for a full report). As you are aware we have a very proactive PTFA which organises events like the Beer Blazer and PTFA BBQ. They are holding a meeting on Wednesday 1st July to reflect upon the Blazer and finalise plans for the leavers’ BBQ. We urgently need support with the organising of refreshments for Sports Day on Friday July 10th and to sell raffle tickets for the £30 worth of Tony Pryce sports shop vouchers that were kindly donated. At the meeting, it will be an opportunity for any new ideas to be generated for the year ahead. I have spoken to a number of mums at the school gate that have some great ideas for the Christmas period, so please attend and share these. The leavers’ BBQ takes place on Friday 17th July and will have a Wild West theme. We will have a bucking bronco, an assault course style bouncy castle and music provided by Rock and Roll Steve. All these activities will be free and are being funded by the PTFA, so please show your support and dig out those check shirts! Year 5 Clip and Climb On Thursday a very excited group of Y5 children joined All Saints School in Exeter to take part in a Clip and Climb activity. The children showed great ability and stamina, climbing quickly and skilfully up the different types of walls. The children from both schools are to be congratulated for their determination and also for their great sense of team spirit and their impeccable behaviour. "It was fun and I hope that we can go again"- Millie "Even though I had a fear about the height, I made it to the top"- Adam "We had a great time and everyone completed what they wanted to do" – Sam PC Steve Speariett retiring Next Friday PC Steve Speariett will be joining us for our Friday Celebration Assembly as he is retiring from the force. He has been a loyal supporter of the school and regularly assists the school crossing at the beginning of the day and pops into classes. I have asked him to present the certificates from the week and wondered if any of the children had police costumes or accessories they could bring in and then change into ready for the assembly. As part of the send-off, Mrs Timmins has prepared a special song that the children will sing. Parents are invited to attend the assembly which will commence at 2.45pm. Thank You Certificates Congratulations to the following children: Class 1: Isabelle Langham for her hardworking attitude and resilience in all tasks, Maisie Clist for her enthusiastic approach to learning, Laila Hosking for her beautiful presentation, Thomas Llewellyn for lovely smiles at morning time, Theo Davis for his independent story writing and Taylor Heddington for his work on repeated addition. Wednesday 3rd June 2015 The kids have had a great first day at Rockley. After sorting out who was in each room they got ready for their water sports activity. They had a fantastic time sailing Wayfarers around Poole harbour and admiring the views. Fortunately no one fell in and they all got a chance at the helm. To finish off the afternoon the children tucked into Southern fried chicken before heading out for several fun beach activities. We are now looking forward to a good nights sleep! Thursday 4th June 2015 After tucking into a good breakfast, kayaking and windsurfing were first on the agenda today. There was lots of fun and games with both - children had to swap seats in the kayaks and tried to paddle backwards which was easier said than done! As well as trying to master some of the basic windsurfing skills, the children had to catwalk across the boards with a jump into the water for the finale! After lunch, the children sailed Pico's. To start with, we were towed to another beach as it was a little more sheltered before being taught the skills needed. Off shore there was a good amount of wind to allow for some super sailing and we saw some great tacking when changing direction. There were definitely some naturally talented sailors out there today! Tonight's BBQ was demolished quickly and refuelled the children ready for the climbing wall. Everyone gave it a go and it was lovely to see such super encouragement and praise for each other. Back at the centre, as the sun set on another enjoyable day, all children showered (some were hoping to get away without a wash until they got back home) before lights out. Friday 5th June 2015 After a little encouragement, the children woke to a delicious cooked breakfast today. They quickly packed their bags and headed off to their final activities. Paddle boarding was first on the agenda. The children got to utilise some of the skills they were developing yesterday as they had used the boards for windsurfing yesterday. Again, there were lots of wet bodies but many smiles too. A final tasty lunch was enjoyed and they will certainly need the boost it provides to tackle the fast but fun Hobi Cat sailing that is on the agenda for this afternoon. They have had some great experiences and some have conquered their fears and given activities their all. It has been a pleasure for all staff involved to have accompanied the children on the residential although sleep beckons!!
