“The Transforming Reality of the Incarnation”
June 7, 2015
1 John 1:1-4
A New Sermon Series: 1 John—This Is Love
1 John 1:1-4 is background to the rest of the letter
Written by the Apostle John to churches located in Asia Minor
Main Point: The reality of the incarnation transforms everything
1) The Reality of Jesus’ Incarnation (vv. 1-3)
“Seen, Heard, Touched”
Defending the faith against Gnostic and Docetic heresies
Eyewitness to the humanity and deity of Jesus
If Jesus is not fully God and fully human then…
1) We do not have a God who can sympathize with us (Heb. 2:18)
2) God’s love for us is diminished (1 Jn. 3:16)
3) Salvation is not ours, the cross accomplished nothing (Rom. 5:18-19,
2 Cor. 5:21)
2) The Reality of Jesus’ Message (vv. 1-3)
John’s main concern here is the message of the Gospel, the good news, and
he says two things about it:
1) Eternal Life comes through union with Christ
2) Fellowship with the Father, Son, and fellow Christians
Conclusion: The reality of the incarnation transforms everything

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have
heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked
upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word
of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it,
and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which
was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that
which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so
that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our
fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

And we are writing these things so that our joy may be
complete.

TODAY IN THE PULPIT – Ministering in the pulpit this morning
are Pastor JT Holderman and Pastor Bud Davies.
COMMUNION –We invite all believers in Jesus Christ to celebrate
the sacrament of Holy Communion with us this morning. It is our
practice to hold the bread (gluten free wafers are in the cup in the
center of the bread plate) and grape juice until all are served. Our
Elders serving at the 8:00 a.m. service are Mary Ann Berthoud,
Roland Berthoud, Paul Burns and Hank Cochran and at the 10:45 a.m.
service are John Perella, Elise Roelands, Rob Shaubach, and Gary
Snyder.
COFFEE TALK – You are invited to join your brothers and sisters in
Friendship Hall for a time of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cold drinks and
light refreshments.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES – We are pleased this morning to
honor our 2015 high school graduates. From Pequea Valley HS
graduating this week are; Rob Bitts, Jason Brown, Lauren Girvin,
Brandon Hall, Curtis Hall, Sean Hershey, Lucie Hollosi and Ethan
Houck. Graduated from Lancaster Catholic HS is Tim Felker and
graduating from Garden Spot HS are Mitchell Bair and Beka Brown.
Best wishes to all of our High School graduates!
BROOKLYN MISSION TRIP – This morning we are pleased to
commission our team that will leave on Thursday
evening, June 11th for Brooklyn, NY, to work alongside
others from Resurrection Brooklyn EPC in their
continued efforts to assist those who received damage
in Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Members of the team include: Roland
Berthoud, Denise Byler, David Doutrich, Tim Doutrich, Megan
Homsher, Alyssa Maxwell and Cory Snyder. Please be in prayer for
the team as they travel to and from Brooklyn, as they work and for a
safe return next Sunday, June 14th.
SUMMER ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL – The summer Adult Sunday
School class begins this morning and meets in Fellowship Hall. The
first three classes will be stand-alone subjects and then in July we will
begin a video series on “Gospel Shaped Outreach”. We invite you to
join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for this time of study and
learning together. Adult Sunday School offers foundational teaching in
Bible, theology, and Christian discernment, for the purpose of building up
the body of Christ, and equipping one another for ministry all for the glory
of God.
HOTDOGS AND A SOFTBALL GAME – RESCHEDULED! June
22nd! You will want to get to the ball field by 6:00 p.m. to enjoy some
hot dogs and fellowship prior to the 6:30 p.m. game
against Calvary Monument. You are asked to bring a
dessert to share. Maybe we could even arrange to get
the team members to sign autographs or have
pictures taken with you?! If the ballgame is rained
out that night we will gather in Bellevue’s
Fellowship Hall for an evening of food and
fellowship!
SUMMERFEST 2015 – All youth are invited to SummerFest 2015!
Held on the Shaubach’s farm from June 18-21, this year’s
SummerFest will include three nights and four days of
speakers who will challenge and encourage you in your
Christian faith, all while enjoying campfires, water fights,
and a trip to Muddy Run. We will also spend a good
portion of Saturday engaged in a local service project.
The cost for SummerFest is $35/person. Sign up outside
Kevin’s office.
SUMMERFEST 2015 NEEDS YOUR HELP! – We are looking for
volunteers – individuals, families, or community groups – to supply
the youth with several meals during SummerFest. We are asking that
the meals are delivered to the youth, and that you stay and eat with us!
There is a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center. Contact Toni Holton
or Kim Mann with questions.
LOOKING FOR ADULTS TO JOIN THE YOUTH! – Want to
join the youth during SummerFest (June 18-21), or help with the
mission trip to Philadelphia (July 1-5)? If you are willing and able to
help with part or all of those events, please contact Kevin Sheahan.
YOUTH MISSION TRIP – This summer, the youth are headed to
Philadelphia for a mission and service trip. Northeast Community
Church (PCA) of Philadelphia is located in a very
ethnically diverse part of the city, with many 1st and
2nd generation families, many from Latin America,
Albania, Iraq, and China. Our goal is to help meet
some physical needs to homes and buildings, develop
a relationship with their youth group, and host an outreach event in a
park on July 4th. Sign up outside Kevin’s office. There will be an
informational meeting for anyone interested in the trip on Sunday,
June 14th, at 2:00 p.m. in the church library.
BARNSTORMERS’ BALLGAME – We are going to a ballgame
again! The Membership and Evangelism Committee has
reserved some good seats at the Clipper Magazine Stadium
in Lancaster for a night at the ballgame on August 15th at
7:00 p.m.
Tickets are $9.00 and can be reserved by
signing up and paying for them at the Welcome Center or you may call
the church office (717-442-4077). Checks should be payable to
Bellevue Presbyterian Church.
ANNUAL CHURCH PICNIC
SUNDAY, JUNE 14TH
8:00 a.m. – Worship in sanctuary
10:45 a.m. – Worship at Gap Park
12 noon – Picnic at Gap Park
Our annual Church Picnic will be held on Sunday, June 14th at
12:00 noon. The day will begin with our 8:00 a.m. worship in the
sanctuary. THERE WILL BE NO SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
HELD THAT MORNING. The 10:45 a.m. service will be held at the
Gap (Salisbury) Park. The worship theme for the morning is “Ponder
a Parable.”
For the picnic, families are asked to bring a main dish and either a
salad or a dessert to share. Everyone is asked to bring a drink. Paper
products and eating utensils will be provided, but please bring your
serving utensils. You may want to bring lawn chairs as well.
There will be a kiddie pool and waterslide for the children to enjoy
and adults are encouraged to bring along some games they enjoy.
We hope you will join us on Sunday, June 14th for a time of
worship, fellowship and a picnic!
STUDENT LOAN FUND – The Student Loan Committee is once
again receiving applications for Student Loans for the
2015-2016 school year. Interest free loans are available
for all members of Bellevue and their children.
Application forms and guidelines are available from the
church office. Please have your completed forms
returned to the church office by June 30, 2015.
FLOWER CALENDAR – The Flower Calendar for 2015 has been
moved to the office bulletin board however the remaining dates for the
year can be found on a smaller sheet over the coffee center. If you
wish to place flowers in the church they are $50.00 for two
arrangements and can be placed in honor of, in memory of or even in
celebration of anyone you would like remembered.
JOURNEY TO THE POTTER’S HOUSE –The potter, Michael
Ferris, is coming back! If you missed this in October last
year you will want to save the date of June 20, 2015, a
Saturday evening, at 6:30 p.m. A Journey to the Potter’s
House is a mesmerizing, hands-on demonstration of how
a potter works with his clay to form it into a beautiful and useful
vessel. But it’s also an illuminating look into God’s relationship with
us. Yes, under God’s strong hand, and despite our past, God works to
make us into a vessel of honor, useful for His purpose. A free will
offering will be taken. And if all of that isn’t enough to bring you,
your family, and friends out to see the program – we will be holding
an Ice Cream Social afterwards.
BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED –Anyone volunteering
with youth and children are required to have a new background check
completed by July 1st. This includes all youth workers,
VBS volunteers, Sunday school teachers, and so forth.
You can find a background check packet with all the
relevant information in the church office. Please attend
to this matter by July 1st. For questions, please see John Perella or
Kevin Sheahan.
SAFETY and SIGNAGE – We strive to make Bellevue a safe place
for everyone when they walk through the doors from Background
checks on employees and volunteers to placing Evacuation Route
signs in rooms. The signs have been mounted in the rooms to assist
you in the event of any type of emergency which would require
evacuating the building. Please take a moment to check out the
signage so you will be familiar with the evacuation routes should they
ever be needed.
AED – You have probably noticed a new box hanging on the wall in
Friendship Hall over the bulletin table with a nice AED sign above it.
This emergency HeartStart Defibrillator was purchased to have on
hand in the event of an emergency. It is our plan to educate different
key people to know where it is and how to use it in the
upcoming months.
We know there are medical
professionals in the congregation (nurses, medics, EMS
personnel) and seek your assistance. If you would like to
be listed as someone the Ushers could ask for help we ask you to
provide your name to the church office. We plan to have a list of
names available for the Ushers to choose from. encourage you to sign
up soon. Early registration, until July 31st is $20 per person, and after
that it will be $30. See you at the conference!

Usher Ministry
Vacation Bible School
2015
July 19th to July 23rd, 2015
6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
In the church there are many opportunities to be involved. One area in
need of volunteers is that of our Usher Team Ministry. Each Sunday
morning when you walk into the sanctuary an usher is there to greet
you, hand you a bulletin and assist you in finding a seat for you and
your family. Your smiling face and willingness to be of assistance is a
welcome sight to the weekly worshipping body as well as that new
person that may walk through our doors.
We are preparing our schedule for the June 2015 to May 2016
schedule and would like to invite anyone interested in joining this
ministry. You only need commit for one year, one Sunday a month at
one service. We ask that you prayerfully consider being part of this
vital ministry. Please complete the form below and place it in the

The Dollar–A–Day Program
The Nanded Tribals—An Unreached People Group
Last week we launched our “Dollar-A-Day” program to
serve and share the Gospel with an unreached people group
in India, the Nanded Tribals. An unreached people group is
a group of people who have never heard the name of Jesus.
Acts 1:8 says we are to be Jesus’ witnesses to all people, to
Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. All
of these were at one time unreached.
The Missions Committee has spent months discerning and
praying over this new opportunity. We hope you will join
us in bringing the Gospel to the Nandeds by setting aside
one Dollar-A-Day to this cause.

Here’s how you can join us in sharing the Gospel:
1) Take a silk purse to put a Dollar-A-Day into.
2) Pray for the people of the Nanded group.
