Memory in the Digital Age - Gedenkstätte Bergen
Bergen-Belsen Memorial Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation Bergen-Belsen International Summer School Memory in the Digital Age 01– 07 August 2015 in Bergen-Belsen, Germany Bergen-Belsen International Summer School Memory in the Digital Age The Bergen-Belsen International Summer School is aimed at international undergraduate students from different disciplines interested in the challenges of commemorative culture in a global, digital and medial context. The summer school offers lectures, guided tours, workshops and discussions held in English. Its aim is to develop visions for the future of educational work at museums and memorials. This year, we will be focussing on issues of space, a topic which brings with it diverse approaches and perspectives: Which concepts of space are currently being discussed within academia in the framework of the on-going ‘spatial turn’? What role does the ‘authentic site’ have to play for concentration camp memorials and how does this ‘authentic character’ change over time? One example is the very different history of the two camp sections of Bergen-Belsen. What does the design and architecture of a memorial tell us about our memorial culture? What opportunities does the digital space of the internet offer for educational work and research at concentration camp memorials? Call for Applications The Bergen-Belsen Memorial will cover your board (double room), food, and the attendance fee. Please register before 07 June 2015 via gbbbb.org/summerschool.
