Campers Return Our stage 3 students returned from camp today and were excited to share the news of their adventures. We can’t wait to see their photos and presentation at assembly. A huge thanks to Mr Haddon, Mr Sutton and Mrs McAuliffe for attending the camp all week. Cross Country Our K-2 Cross country was held today and our students participated with their usual inspirational energy and enthusiasm. Thanks to Mr Burney and the teachers for coordinating the event. The BPS cross country for students in year 3-6 will be held on Wednesday at Willandra. We look forward to seeing parents cheering on the competitors at this event! State Council Last week I attended the NSW Primary Principals State Council. The key area I will be involved in during term 2 is the state-wide curriculum, assessment and reporting to parents review. This review will directly inform the department policy directions and influence the future student reports. I look forward to consulting widely with our parents during the process. P&C A huge thanks to all of our parents for attending the P&C meeting last week. Our P&C is such a vital part of our school and it was great to see such strong numbers. Special thanks to Miss Stanger and Mrs Snell for their work on the technology review which they presented to the meeting. Photo: Teachers have been working with Sue McIntosh on individual education plans for students in their classes. “A Great Student with a Great Attitude” Helpful and thoughtful A loyal friend to all Terrific athlete and skilful sportsman Being polite and well mannered Has a go A consistent conscientious worker Participates in all school activities Mature and responsible attitude BPS Strategic Plan 2015-2017 A brief overview of our strategic plan was presented at last week’s P&C meeting. The plan has three strategic directions that are the result of extensive school evaluation processes and are underpinned by latest research. STRATEGIC DIRECTION 1: CAPACITY -Excellence in teaching and leadership capacity STRATEGIC DIRECTION 2: CURRICULUM -A challenging, engaging and inclusive curriculum Berry Public School – Welcome Everyone Our Community: a culture of care, respect and enrichment. STRATEGIC DIRECTION 3: CULTURE -Enhancing our culture of care, respect and enrichment Attendance Policy Procedures – Exemptions and Leave Last week I was called to attend a meeting about the new procedures and many issues were raised about the impact on school attendance rates as well as concerns raised by parents. One of the key changes to the policy that will affect our attendance data is around the area of extended leave. Principals can no longer grant exemptions from school for travel or family holidays, the leave will be counted as an absence from school. The processes for applying for extended leave at Berry Public School will remain very much the same for parents, however the absences will be recorded as leave on student reports and school data. Languages Survey The inclusion of a language has been requested by some parents at Berry Public School and we are exploring the demand for such classes and possible options for implementation. There are multiple possibilities so if you are interested in your child attending a language class, please complete the 2 minute survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/bps_language or complete the paper version attached to the newsletter. Thanks in advance. Bob Willetts Messages From The Office Photo Day is on this Friday 27th March Photo envelopes need to be handed in on the day of the photos or before-hand to the office. We are seeking a coordinator for this year’s Locavore event. It may seem a daunting task to take on but there is a lot of help at hand. Cath Philpott who has run the event for the past couple of years is available to pass on her knowledge. It is a very rewarding role for someone who is passionate about meeting people, fundraising, and getting the broader community together. If you are interested or know someone that would fit the bill please drop the P&C a line at [email protected]. We would also love to hear from anyone who has fresh ideas as to how we might raise funds for the school during 2015 and would like to get involved and make a difference at Berry Public School. Regards, Ming Leung P&C President. Seeking Class Parent Representatives…. A few years ago, we introduced a system of “Class Parents” and the P&C is keen to continue to “grow” this idea. Having a Class Parent facilitates parents from each class have a network to exchange ideas, information and get to know each other. How does it work? • Each class will have one Class Parent • The Class Parent is parent of a child in that class • The Class Parent takes the role on for the school year • The Class Parent acts as a conduit of information for other parents in that class to or from the P&C, teachers and other parents. What does the Class Parent role involve? • Ideally, the Class Parent would collect and maintain a list of contact details / email address of other parents in the class OR establish a Facebook Group (which is a secure, invitation only group), which was a great way for parents to share ideas, information and pictures with each other. Berry Public School – Welcome Everyone Our Community: a culture of care, respect and enrichment. Please note, that this is not a way of communicating with the class teacher, but the class teacher may ask the Class Parent to disseminate information to the group. If they want to, the Class Parent could help organise social activities that could involve families from that class, year or stage. e.g. A class BBQ or other schools with class parents have mother / daughter and father / son campouts • • 2015 Parent Reps (that I am aware of) are as follows with a number of vacancies to be filled. Class Parent Rep KH VACANT KS VACANT K/1S Jeni Percival 1/2B Parent Rep e-mail [email protected] VACANT 1/2D Cath Philpott [email protected] 1/2K Hannah Jallard Melinda Bolton [email protected] [email protected] 2/3P VACANT 3/4B Trish Church [email protected] 3/4I Cath Philpott [email protected] 3/4M Katie Rivers [email protected] 4/5H VACANT 5/6Mc VACANT 5/6S Paul Eyland [email protected] If you are a parent of a class without a Class Parent, please think about doing this easy and fun role by getting in touch with me. I am happy to assist in setting up Facebook groups or in any way that I can. If you are already a class parent and not on this list please let me know your details so that I can update the list.
