Tuesday
As you will have heard the Supreme Court has voted this week
against prayer at municipal council meetings. Fortunately Mayor
Clarke spoke on CBC radio today in favour of keeping prayer for our
municipality.
He replied that there will be prayer said at Tuesday’s
Council Meeting, sadly having to be in the hallway outside the Council
Chamber. A good showing of Christians joining the Mayor and
Council to show our support would indicate that we are not in fa vour
of the Court’s ruling.
Friday and Saturday
The Youth Group will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine again.
The 30 Hour Famine is a fundraising event put together by World
Vision to eliminate hunger. Last year the Youth Group raised
$1139.00. If you want to make a donation, contact Baillie Ferguson

A night of celebration will be held on Saturday, May 2 nd to celebrate
Rev. Thomas G. Whent's 50 years in ministry. This will take place at
the Dobson Yacht Club on the Westmount Road. Gathering will be at
5:30 pm & a hot buffet meal will be served at 6:00 pm. Tickets are
sold out.
“Mothers’ Union of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, 28 King
Street, North Sydney, will be hosting a Fashion Show by Nygard on
Monday, May 11 th at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $12.00 each & are available

On Saturday, June 6 th The Cove Ladies Auxiliary is having a basement
to attic sale at the “Y’s” Mens Hall on the Westmount Road. If you

CGIT is celebrating 100 years.
All former and present members who attended CGIT in Cape
Breton are invited to help celebrate the 100 th anniversary of CGIT.
An afternoon of fun, songs, skits, memories and lots more is

Camp MacLeod
We are looking for a qualified cook for our camp this summer. If you
are interested in this position please fill out an application on our

required.

applications or other emails on the website in the past few weeks

Digital Communications Workshop Wednesday, May 6
6:30-9:30 p.m. Church Hall
In this three-hour workshop, you will learn practical tips and tricks to
either launch a new congregational website or build on the success of
your existing one. You will learn more about your audience and how
to communicate effectively with them, as well as how to overcome the
traditional challenges that come with web and social media
development. You will be able to develop a plan to help your
congregation excel in the digital world. You will leave the workshop
with specific information on writing better web content and Facebook
posts, and you will have a better understanding of the types of things
to put on your website. An extra bonus: you will be given tools that
will help with photo manipulation and web hosting.

Workshop Presenter:
Barb Summers, Associate Secretary of Communications, joined the
PCC Communications Office in 2012, having previously served as
Communications Coordinator for Presbyterian World Service and
Development. One of the key roles of the Communications Office is to
maintain and enhance the national PCC website, and help
congregations with communications best practices.
Registration:
Those who are interested in developing or maintaining a church
website, learning about Facebook or web hosting are encouraged to
register as soon as possible so that arrangements may be made for
workshop room set-up and nutrition breaks.
Mission Moments - Earth Day
Maria de los Angeles used to depend on purchasing expensive
produce at the market in order to feed her family. All that has
changed now because of a Presbyterian World Service &
Development program working to help farmers in her region end
hunger by planting new types of fruits and vegetables and diversifying
diets. The program is also ensuring that farmers know how to deal
with Nicaragua’s often-dry climate. Maria has learned how to collect
and recycle leaves to help trap moisture in the soil and make organic
fertilizers. This resourcefulness is allowing Maria and other farmers like
her to succeed. Maria is careful to give back what she takes, by
helping to nurture her small piece of land by planting new trees and
using environmentally sustainable farming techniques—and sharing
this knowledge with her children and community to help ensure
better futures for all.
