Undergraduate Education Assistant Application
The School of Biological Sciences welcomes applications from undergraduate to help our faculty members in
being teaching assistants, learning assistants, graders, lab prep workers or office managers.
Employment Terms:
 All assistants are employed from one week prior to the start of classes through the end of finals week.
They are required to be on campus for this entire employment period excluding student holidays listed
on the University Calendar.
Fall Semester: August-December
Spring Semester: January-May
 Students are paid a stipend distributed in bi-weekly installments
Minimum Grade Requirements:
 Complete the course with a minimum grade of B or better
 Except for BIOS 101, students may receive a B or better in LIFE 120 or LIFE 121
 Except for BIOS 111, students may receive a B or better in BIOS 313 or BIOS 314
POSITIONS AVAILABLE
 All positions work 5-15 hours per week, depending on the position and course
Teaching Assistants
 Teach a lab or recitation section
 Includes time spent in the classroom, office hours and tutoring, grading, proctoring and preparation
 Required to attend weekly training meetings at the time designated by the course supervisor
Interns to become Teaching Assistants
 Interns are paired with a current Teaching Assistant to shadow a lab or recitation section with the
potential to become a Teaching Assistant in the following semester.
 Same responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant
Learning Assistant
 Attend the course as the enrolled students to assistant the professor
 Includes time spent in the classroom, weekly pre-chapter meetings, office hours and tutoring, grading
and answering questions.

Assistant professor in preparing assignments, grading and entering grades into Blackboard
Lab Prep Worker
 Setting and break down of weekly labs, preparation of lab materials and solution
 Cleaning and organizing of labs, setting up equipment and equipment care
 Take care of living organisms (plant and animal care)
Lab Office Manager
 Deal with student absences, make up exams and late assignments
 Copy and distribute materials, maintains files
 Generally assists the Lab Manager
