Museum and Heritage Ambassadors Programme 2015
The Arts Marketing Association is currently looking for Ambassadors to promote the
association to the museum and heritage sectors across the UK.
The ideal candidates will have an excellent working knowledge of the sector and a
good network of contacts to draw from to help promote the AMA. They will also be
supporters of the AMA with a desire to promote the value of being a member of the
professional body for their sector. This role is very much one of advocacy of the
organisation and promotion of membership.
What you get from the role
The AMA is the leading arts marketing training membership association. A Museum
and Heritage Ambassador will be at the forefront of the development of marketing
within their sector; working alongside the AMA team they will be able to have direct
feedback into how the AMA caters for their sector and its development.
For the individual this is an excellent networking opportunity and a unique chance to
work alongside colleagues from all over the country. The AMA sees this role as part
of its extended team and each Ambassador will play a crucial role in the
organisation’s brand story and communications strategy.
The Ambassadors will receive a place at the annual AMA conference subject to
evidence of actively engaging with the scheme. Other benefits of joining the scheme

These benefits are subject to terms and conditions to be agreed by Museum
Ambassadors in advance of committing to the role.
What we ask you to do

Be an active advocate for AMA membership

Represent the AMA within your sector and region and identify potential
members

Provide a quarterly feedback report and updates on relevant news from the
museum sector

Attend AMA network meetings and invite your contacts
Each Ambassador is expected to be a representative of the AMA; to promote the
organisation to their contacts and potential members within their region and sector.
There are no specific targets attached to the role, but there will be regular contact
with the AMA to monitor progress and leads for potential new members.
The more leads generated, the more awareness the wider museum sector has of the
AMA and the potential for memberships is increased. This ultimately leads to the
AMA continuing to provide a programme that is essential and relevant to the
museum and heritage sector.
Each Ambassador will be required to collate a short quarterly feedback report
highlighting any potential membership leads they have generated, instances where
they have actively promoted the AMA in a networking situation and any other
relevant updates to the museum and heritage sector (e.g. new approaches to
marketing being adopted by museums, staff changes in specific organisations or
challenges facing the sector.) In addition to this, regular updates to the AMA are
encouraged on a more informal basis.
Ideally, Ambassadors will attend regional network meetings hosted by AMA Member
Reps; they are also encouraged to invite their contacts and potential new members
in order to introduce them to the AMA and other members.
What you can expect from us
The AMA will send monthly updates on our museum and heritage news via email;
this will include programme information relevant to the sector, updates on museumspecific events and membership information for Museum and Heritage Ambassadors
to communicate to peers and colleagues within their region.
The AMA will provide on-going support to Museum and Heritage Ambassadors,
enhancing their networks, delivering events relevant to the sector and providing
resources for Ambassadors to clearly communicate the AMA brand message and
feel part of the extended team. Ambassadors are advocates for the AMA and our
membership so we want the right people delivering the right message, therefore we
will support and develop each Ambassador with the necessary skills for the role.
Each Ambassador will receive a complimentary place at this year’s AMA Conference
in Birmingham where a networking opportunity will be provided for all Ambassadors
to meet one another and with AMA staff members. On-going discussion and
evaluation of the Ambassadors scheme is highly encouraged and its progress will be
closely monitored.
Training
All Museum Ambassadors will be required to attend an online training session where
the Ambassador role and programme will be explained. Each new Ambassador will
be given the chance to explore their expectations of the role and how this fits with
the AMA’s on-going communications strategy. The training will explore effective
networking methods and the role of advocacy in strengthening an organisation.
The online training will take place on Tuesday 19 May 2015, 2-4pm.
