May 4 Preview: “Loaves & Fishes Community Project”
Creekside Community Center
We need all Rotarians to participate in some way
for our Loaves & Fishes Service Project!
Be a shopper right after the club meeting and deliver the groceries to Creekside Center...
or, be an Iron Chef and do the heavy cooking;
or, help prepare the fruit and roll tacos.
You can also be a server.
Everyone is needed.
We begin at Sam’s Club at 1:30. Start food preparation around 2:00
We still need more volunteers between 4:00 and 7:00 PM.
Family and friends are welcome, too! Just come!

You've read the headlines. Unfortunately, the question now is not if your information is going to be accessed or stolen, but when. Not surprisingly, businesses and their employees are not immune to
these attacks. In fact, employees may be at increased risk for personal security breaches.
In an effort to inform the attendees of current developments in the digital underground as well as provide realistic advice for cyber protection, Mark Lanterman will be discussing recent high profile cyber-crime events, including Web Site breaches impacting retailers, banks, Hollywood and government agencies. Mark will discuss particularly dangerous types of threats that might effect individuals such as phishing, malware, and wifi attacks.
Mark Lanterman is the Chief Technology Officer of Computer
Forensic Services. Before entering the private sector, Mark

spent 11 years as a sworn police investigator and as a member of
the U. S. Secret Service Electronic Crimes Taskforce. Mark has
over 28 years of experience in the field and has testified in over two thousand cases. Mark
provides regular commentary on cyber security issues for national print and broadcast media, including NBC, ABC, Bloomberg, and The Wall Street Journal. Mark is currently retained by the Hennepin County (MN) Sheriff's Office as its computer forensic expert.

What a fun meeting we had on Monday! Past District Governor
Diann Kirby led us in a mind-bending/searching exercise of Rotary
trivia. There were 5 tables, each with a table name:
Peace Through Service, Lend a Hand, Lead the Way, Make Dreams
Real, and Sow the Seeds of Love. Diann asked questions such as:

April Birthdays
When was Rotary founded? 1905 with 4 members
How many members are there now? 1.2 million
Which continent has the fastest growing membership? Asia
What is the percentage of women members (remember this started as an all boys club—
oh foolish men!) Internationally 15% are women, 22% in the U.S., 29% District 5950
When was our Bloomington Noon Rotary founded? 1961
Who sponsored our club? Richfield Rotary Club
Who was our first president? Wilbur Coffin and he was district governor 1967-68
What is the longest running fund-raiser in our club? (Well that was easy!) The Harold
Larson Party
What was raised at that first party? $1,000
Which District 5950 Club has had the most district governors? Minneapolis (8)
Which Minnesota governor also served as a district governor? Elmer Andersen in 19541955
Who is the current RI chair? Gary CK Huang from Taipei, Taiwan.
How much money has been raised by The Rotary Foundation? $1 billion
Which country is expected to be certified polio-free next? Nigeria
Brian Emerson kept score. One table seemed to have the gray matter that knew majority of
the answers. I’m sitting at that table next time! Diann then went into how districts were
formed and when. We learned a lot and I think Diann perhaps missed her true calling as a
game show hostess.

This week, Harry, had a very normal week in school. On the weekend, he
taught Sunday School to a group of 3 and 4 year olds...enjoyable until the
slight accident that soiled his clothes. Friday, there was a Connection Special at school where many of the Seniors sung or played their instruments.
The ACT’s are this week and he is exempt.

Terry Stirewalt thanked all the Rotarians who attended the Ethics Luncheon. The STRIVE
kids had just participated in an ethics debate session the week before, so, the speaker was
quite timely. Terry is also taking motorcycle training in North Carolina in a couple of weeks.
Plus, he recently celebrated his mother-in-law’s 93rd birthday. She was the life of the party!
Some news from Linda Jewell...she is doing fine. She and Gary Harrington will be going to
New Orleans for the Jazz Festival. They continue to be busy and are still working.
Bonnie Carlson was honored by being selected for a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Minnesota Meetings &
Events Editorial Advisory Board.
Jim Mortenson had cataract surgery last week and is doing very well. He will have the second eye done in the near
future.
Dan Siler is moving to Texas to run a store there. He is excited about having a Monday to Friday job. We are sad to
be losing him and wish him well with his move and in his new position.
Andrea Specht is heading to New York with 35 travelers for the Annual Arts Experience trip. She will consider it a success if she can keep track of the whole group and return with the same number as she left with.
Carolyn Pratt is back from a trip to New Mexico. Welcome back.
