School of Public Policy and Governance
School of Public Policy and Governance Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad Graduate Seminar 27-29 Well-being, Growth and Development April, 2015 The last two decades have witnessed new patterns of interaction between economics, politics and the society. The policy architecture of almost every country has responded to these changes, in spite of which there is an apparent disjunction between the emerging policy challenges and the institutions required to address them. Given the changing policy role of the state, a new line of reasoning has emerged, which argues for a synergy between political leadership, bureaucracy, people’s institutions, private business, thought leaders and development practitioners towards reorienting policy architecture. However, there is a growing contestation among these institutions/ actors with respect to their roles in influencing policy formulation and processes. Today, more than ever, there is an urgency to recognise and deliver on the critical needs of people in an ever-changing society, to provide richer human opportunities and initiate creative and tangible changes in institutions governing well-being, growth and development. The School of Public Policy and Governance (SPPG) at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad calls for research papers that endeavour to analyse the existing status of development interventions, seek to understand/measure their impact, dissect critical policy failures, explore big ideas and showcase examples of innovative practices in government and public policy in India, South Asia and the world. Papers can be conceptual, methodological, empirical, or based on institutional analyses or ethnographic explorations. The aim is to provide a suitable platform for young researchers to share and exchange ideas and present their research.
