JAN VERBAKEL May 2015 Acute infection is the most common presentation of children to ambulatory care. In contrast, serious infections are rare and often present at an early stage. Clinical prediction rules and point-of-care tests might aid early recognition of those serious infections and adequate referral to avoid complications or death.
