THE CENTRE POMPIDOU
INFORMATION
The Centre Pompidou, in the heart of Paris, opened to the public in 1977 and
today hosts the largest collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe.
With more than 100,000 works, it covers the period from 1905 to the present day.
About thirty temporary exhibitions attract millions of visitors every year, such as
Matisse, Dali and Roy Lichtenstein exhibitions. Additionally, music, dance and
theatre programmes, as well as performances and cinema cycles are available
for the visitor. The Centre Pompidou also houses a public information library and
a research institute for acoustic/music co-ordination. Designed by architects
Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, the building is a landmark of the 20th century.

From 16 September to 15 June: 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
From 16 June to 15 September: Summer opening hours from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Last admission fifteen minutes before the museum closes.
Closed on: Tuesdays, January 1 and December 25

THE “CENTRE POMPIDOU PROVISOIRE” PROJECT
Málaga is the launching partner of the new concept of temporary Centre
Pompidou (Centre Pompidou provisoire), conceived by the Centre Pompidou’s
president, Alain Seban. The “Centre Pompidou Málaga” is intended to be a
laboratory and pilot project. Over the next few years, it will settle into an existing
building, the “Cubo”, and offer the public a selection of masterpieces from the
Centre Pompidou’s collection, a programme of exhibitions and multi-disciplinary
experiences as well as exhibitions and workshops dedicated to younger
audiences.
The “Centre Pompidou provisoire”, draws from the Centre Pompidou’s
museum expertise,multi-disciplinary cultural programming and paedagogical
tools,especially those geared towards families and younger audiences. Their aim
is to become an interface between society and creation, in order to make today’s
art accessible to the widest possible audience.

“The Collection”, a journey through 20th and 21st century art through a presentation
of the Centre Pompidou’s works on human representation, divided into five sections
comprising paintings, sculptures, installations, films and videos:

Along the tour, you will find three interactive pedagogical devices for children:
“Playing with your own image”, “Hidden Faces” and “Fragmented Identities” .
Metamorphoses
Picasso turned the whole portrait genre upside-down and inside-out. The
selection of works in this section illustrates this radical re-invention of human
representation.

The Man without a Face
Since 1910 and until today, artists have been representing humanity’s new faces,
echoing the solitude and alienation of the modern world.

The Body in Pieces
Tormented by the image of the Other, artists haunted by transgression and
animality came up with a new, bewildering and ever-changing version of Man.
An audio-guide of 16 works in the collection is available free of charge.
Visit the “Beneath the Moon II” exhibition–workshop, aimed at children
The game-artwork Beneath the Moon II by sculptor Miquel Navarro evokes an
imaginary city and consists of thousands of metallic elements of different shapes.
It invites children to build new cities by combining these objects created by the
artist.
