EMC FILE SYNC AND SHARE AS A SERVICE
EMC FILE SYNC AND SHARE AS A SERVICE Single-vendor sync and share solution AT A GLANCE •EMC® File Sync and Share as a Service (FSSaaS) leverages EMC Atmos®, EMC Isilon®, or EMC VNX®, storage platforms, using Syncplicity so you can deliver secure access to on-premise data storage from anywhere, or any device BENEFITS •Increase per subscriber revenues by adding file sync and share service to your storage portfolio without investing in new infrastructure •Accelerate customer deployments with a single-vendor solution that stores files in on-premise cloud infrastructure •Enable anywhere, any device secure access to on-premise data from a cloud service architecture •Provide an on-premise storage option for Syncplicity customers while increasing utilization of existing storage investments •Deliver robust protection at the device, user, folder, and file level while allowing customers to be as restrictive or permissive as they want MULTI-TENANT CLOUD OFFERING LETS ENTERPRISE USERS SHARE DATA SECURELY, ACROSS MOBILE DEVICES OF ALL TYPES EMC is focused on service delivery opportunities that will accelerate the growth of your subscriber revenues. Leveraging a shared, multi-tenant cloud architecture to provide your customers with portal-based self-service, you can significantly reduce operating costs, compared to traditional dedicated hosting. Both technologies are key to a profitable as-a-service model. The evolution in mobile technology, and the rapid consumer adoption of new devices, is driving enterprises to adapt. With increasing pressure from users to expand the range of mobile devices they allow to access enterprise resources, your customers need to enable collaboration and sharing between users and among devices, without sacrificing security or creating increased management complexity. The rapid proliferation of devices and highly distributed teams, coupled with the increased expectation of anywhere, anytime access to data and network resources, has created new mobility challenges for enterprise IT. Cloud mobility, workload mobility and client mobility demand both back- and front-end solutions to ensure that users can seamlessly and securely collaborate across the enterprise while still maintaining IT control and flexibility. The ability to sync files on all devices and share files with colleagues, customers, and partners, while maintaining secure and compliant workflow, will become even more vital as the number of tablets triples by 2017. This growth in mobile devices adds even greater complexity to the management of existing PCs and smartphones deployed across the enterprise. Enterprise IT has been faced with either embracing consumer-grade sync and share services or implementing a complex, multi-vendor hardware and software solution. File Sync and Share in the cloud not only meets the needs of a highly distributed mobile workforce, but also enables the secure sharing of documents outside the enterprise firewall without creating increased complexity. The EMC FSSaaS solution integrates best-in-class EMC Atmos, Isilon, or VNX storage arrays with Syncplicity authentication, creating a secure way to access and share active files across multiple platforms by multiple users. The fully integrated EMC FSSaaS solution components include •Atmos, Isilon or VNX storage—to securely host data on-premise •Syncplicity orchestration tier—to enable 7 by 24 by 365 system management, monitoring and maintenance for service providers •Syncplicity storage and compute tiers—to enable on-premise storage for service providers and customers •Syncplicity client—to let users access, edit and share their files from desktop and mobile applications and web browsers Figure 2. Growth in demand for anywhere, anytime access to files and storage is the net result of BYOD trends, geographic dispersal of collaborators, and centralized data management Figure 3. EMC storage and Syncplicity enable FSSaaS with enterprise security SYNCPLICITY As organizations seek a secure corporate sync and share solution, Syncplicity lets you offer file sync and share as a service with data stored, by you, in a specific geographic area. By leveraging your existing infrastructure, Syncplicity creates opportunities to upsell new services by providing a ‘frictionless’ experience that allows users to easily access and share files from devices on every major platform. With a comprehensive set of security features and controls at the user, device, folder, and file level, Syncplicity gives your customers the tools and infrastructure integration to maintain control of, and visibility into, large-scale file sharing activities. As a result, they maintain control over all of the content that currently exists in unmanaged locations, such as email attachments, local desktop folders, and consumer cloud services. In addition to giving users the ability to access and share all of their local files from all their devices automatically, with no extra steps, Syncplicity provides strong security, controls, and storage flexibility to protect corporate files and adhere to compliance requirements. With EMC Atmos, you can add capacity, applications, locations or tenants to your cloud with zero need to develop or reconfigure, thereby reducing administration. In a multi-tenant environment, EMC Atmos lets you meter capacity, bandwidth, and usage across tenants, while enabling users to self-manage and access storage. EMC ISILON Isilon offers efficient, cost-effective storage from a single file system, serving I/O-intensive applications, storage, and near-line archives. An EMC Isilon cluster creates a unified pool of highly efficient storage, with a proven 80 percent storage utilization rate. Therefore, less physical storage is required to house the same amount of data—reducing capital and operating costs. Figure 5. With EMC Isilon, you can scale both capacity and performance almost instantly to meet specific business needs—all without additional IT burden. EMC VNX The VNX family of storage arrays is designed to deliver maximum performance and scalability, enabling private and public cloud providers to grow, share, and cost-effectively manage multi-protocol file and block systems. EMC VNX series storage is powered by Intel processors for intelligent storage that automatically and efficiently scales in performance, while ensuring data integrity and security. CONCLUSION With increasingly mobile workforces, and the proliferation of devices designed to connect to corporate content from anywhere at any time, providing users with secure access while protecting against unauthorized use and malware attacks can be a challenge.
