donations are also accepted. To get involved, attend a meeting the
1st Monday of every month at the Library at 9:00 a.m. You can also
participate in the Book Club hosted by the “Friends of the Library”
the 1st Monday of even numbered months. For book title and

JUNIOR KIDS CLUB - Ages 5 to 7
KIDS CLUB – Ages 8 to 12
Summer is here, and what better way to spend
it than with some fun in the sun! Come to Kid’s
Club for games, sports, activities, skits, crafts and
SWIMMING! Bring a lunch, two snacks, water
bottle, swimwear/water play clothes, sunscreen
and a towel. Swim time will be 12:45-1:45 pm
every day.

Summer R.A.T. Pack: Ages 13 to 17
Teens!!! Need volunteer hours for school, job applications, college?
Want to do something fun in a safe environment free from the pressures of everyday teen life? Then come, check out
R.A.T. Pack. Focus will be on learning new skills, playing sports and games, helping the community, preparing for college and future job opportunities and most importantly having fun and making new friends. Space is limited! Enroll
early! Registration packets are available at Hook Community Center and need to be completed and returned prior to
attending the program. Please call for more information. Volunteer location, day/days and times to be decided.
Avalon Park Family Disc Golf Tournament!
August 22nd - 9am - FREE
Come check out Victorville’s newest Disc Golf Course with
this free and instructional tournament. Players, both youth
and adult, will learn about disc golf while playing in a just-forfun tournament. Each group will have a guest instructor that
will teach the basics of the game. Prizes will be given out to
random participants including discs.

A Few Pool Reminders:
- Wear appropriate swim wear to ensure entrance in the pool - basketball shorts and cotton clothing are not swimwear.
- Pool passes will be issued due to unforseen pool closures (i.e. inclement weather, accidents, etc.)
- Please do not eat at least 30 minutes before swimming.
- Appropriate behavior is expected at all times.
- Please enroll carefully! There will be no refunds, transfers or monetary credits issued.

Lifeguard Training - Ages 15 & up
Interested in becoming a certified lifeguard? This is a
comprehensive course in lifeguarding skills, first aid and
CPR/AED for the professional. A pre swim is mandatory
and must be passed to continue with the course. Fees
include book and pocket mask. You must bring a fanny
pack and whistle if you pass the pre swim.

Swim Lesson Registration Process
1. Victorville residents can mail-in or drop-off registrations May 4th through May 14th.
2. Random lottery will be conducted daily beginning May 8th.
3.Complete one registration form per participant.
4. Repeating a level is highly encouraged as it helps to strengthen and reinforce what is being
taught.
5. Use the credit card authorization form at the bottom of the registration form, or make checks
payable to City of Victorville. Must include Driver’s License Number on check. (Cash payments
cannot be accepted for drop-off enrollment.)
6. Walk-in registration for residents and non-residents begins May 18th.

Get in the water with your infant or toddler and teach
them to feel more relaxed and comfortable. Parent
emphasis is on water orientation and safety. Class size
limited to 8.

Special Needs (VIP)
Adult must get in the water with the participant and
teach them water safety at his/her own pace. Lifeguard
will be available for guidance.

For Level 2 graduates. Crawl stroke development, elementary backstroke, back crawl, coordination and safety.
Level 4—Stroke Development (L4)
Participants must have mastered Level 3 skills and be
able to swim the length of the pool. Elementary backstroke, crawl stroke perfection, development of breaststroke and sidestroke, kicks and safety.
Level 5—Stroke Refinement (L5)
Participants must have mastered Level 4 skills. Refinement of breast stroke, side stroke, swimming underwater, elementary backstroke, front and back crawl, introduction to butterfly, diving and safety.
No water skills required. Class will teach entry, exit, water
safety, floating and arm paddling.

Starting September 1st.
The lottery for open enrollment will begin August
4th for Victorville residents. Forms and payment information may be dropped off at Hook Community
Center from August 4-13th. Drawing for classes will
be completed on August 14th. Walk in registration
for remaining openings will begin August 17th at
9:30 am until full.
Stepping Stones preschool classes are in session
from September–May. Monthly tuition must be
paid by the 15th of the current month for the next
month’s class. Openings in priority classes will be
filled from wait list.
Music & Art
U-Be-Singin’ Group Voice Lessons – Ages 5 & Up Drawing for Children – Ages 7 & Up
All genres of music will be taught, including Broadway,
Jazz, Rock, Country, Folk, Opera, Gospel, R & B, and holiday music for the December Winter Recital. All students
will have the opportunity for solo performances through
this class and at community events and recitals. Healthy
techniques in voice production, sight singing, harmony
and ear training are taught.

by duplicating works of art from the masters themselves...
Van Gogh, Picasso and many others. This class will be

A new 170-bed skilled nursing facility is going to be built on 11 acres at the northwest corner of Winona Street and 11th Avenue.The project plans are to create the
74,000-plus square-foot facility to house 80 units, ranging from single- to multi-occupant rooms. The majority of the residents will be on a short-term stay who are recovering from surgery, light cardiac events and other lesser ailments. The facility will
provide 60 jobs for staff and include support spaces for physical and occupational
therapies, dining and activity, and even a barber/beauty salon. The center will also
be open 24 hours a day with operations minimized during night hours, according to
a city staff report. This project should prove to be a wonderful example of private,
city and state collaboration.

Construction Project Update
As the economy continues to improve, residents can expect to see many more
construction projects popping up. For example, a visit to restaurant row or WalMart
on Amargosa will surprise residents to see the construction taking place in that
area directly behind Lowes. Permits have been issued for the project which will be
located south of Lowes and west of Roadhouse on Amargosa Road.
The construction taking place there will become a 45,481 square foot multi-tenant
building. At this point, planned tenants include Michaels, Staples and Dollar Tree.

sponsor a Curbside Recycling contest called: “The Right Stuff”
Residents who recycle correctly will have the chance to win a

The City of Victorville’s Adopt-A-Street Program had
its best year ever in 2014. We now have 28 groups
signed up to participate, and last year they collected
over 1,100 bags of litter. Participants include individuals (“An Old Girl Scout” is how one volunteer
describes herself ), businesses, churches, and nonprofits. Our largest group is People’s Care with over
88 volunteers. People’s Care serves people with developmental disabilities.

What you need to know about licensing your dog...
Every dog that lives in the City limits must be licensed and vaccinated against
rabies in accordance with the City of Victorville Municipal Code. This helps
protect the general health, safety and welfare of all persons within the City.
New residents have 60 days to acquire a license for their dog(s), and persons
renewing a dog license have a 30-day grace period following the expiration/
renewal date.
In addition, no more than three adult dogs or adult cats can be maintained at
a single residence.
