We Will…
 Provide the STEM is in Your DNA mini-workshop where we teach kids about how Ancient KEMET (Africa)
was the birthplace of many of the scientific and mathematical principles we use today! This is a popular
lesson for attendees!
 Teach you to program with a SCRATCH Computer Coding Class. The SCRATCH program was created at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to teach kids how to code in a fun and interactive way. **Must
bring your own fully charged laptop computer with you. **Note: This is open to grades 3-12 only.
 Engage in “Hands-On” Science Projects. Learn about the scientific principles involved with fun, interesting
experiments.
 Provide an SAT Essay Writing Workshop. Learn skills that can help you perform well on the Spring 2015 SAT
essay, as well as help you: prepare your college admissions essays. Taught by a college professor who has a
highly regarded strategic communications firm with proven success at the Univ. of Illinois- Chicago, United
Parcel Service, and more!
 Teach About the Science of Body Movement to Help Relieve Stress. Have fun with the “Kids-Zumba” Final
Exam Stress Buster mini class and learn about how stress affects your body’s major organs… and how
exercising is a great way to relieve stress, and strengthen your lungs, muscles, and heart – all while having
fun! This event is for parents and kids to enjoy. Taught by award winning owner of Brick House Fitness who
also runs her own mental health therapy practice!
 Offer STEM Professionals Who Discuss Their Jobs and How You Can Do Them Too! We will specifically
detail interesting jobs students may have never considered, as well as outline the math, science, and other
educational requirements kids should be working on NOW, no matter their age, to “track” into STEM
courses in middle school, high school, as well as college
 Surround you with Other Kids Who Love Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Just Like You!
CANNED GOOD DRIVE FOR THOSE IN NEED…We will also be collecting donated canned goods so that we can
help fulfill the NSBE mission, which is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who
excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
The NSBE SEEK Parent Volunteer Group would like to thank the NSBE Headquarters Staff for their continued
support and encouragement! We also thank Lauren Fox and the NSBE chapter at the University of Maryland
College Park for generously hosting us on their beautiful campus!
