Thanks to The Department of Health, Diabetes Grant of Tennessee,
CMSP will offer FREE boating adventures this May and June.

*Please sign up for ALL boating activities at the boat dock. Spots are Limited. Also, don’t forget to wear
appropriate clothing!*
Sunday May 31 Shannon
8:00 a.m. Flat Water Paddling Basics: This on-land introduction course is designed to help you improve your
paddling regardles of your skill level. This is an introduction/safety talk where we will discuss basic turning
strokes, launching and landing, and other paddling skills. Meet at the boat dock. Approximately 1 hour.
9:00 a.m. Canoe Float: Start your morning off with a relaxing trip on Byrd Lake. Meet us at the boat dock for a
great opportunity to get out and enjoy the peace and quiet the park has to offer. Approximately 1 hour.
1:00 p.m. Flat Water Kayaking: Kayaking around Byrd Lake will provide mental and physical benefits while
enjoying our beautiful lake. Join us at the boat dock as we paddle our way the “famous” seven arch bridge.
Approximately 1 hour.
6:00 p.m. Paddle Board Excursion: The program will start you off with the basics of Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
There wil be a safety and techniquie introduction. Then the group will hit the water for your paddle board
excursion. Please meet at the boat dock. Approximately 1 hour.
Monday June 1 Shannon
9:00 a.m. Early Morning Flat Water Kayaking: NO Experience Necessay! Kayaking is something everyone can
enjoy! Meet us at the boat dock for a short trip to the swinging bridge! Approximately 1 hour.
2:00 p.m. Afternoon Paddle Board Excursion: Come join us for a fun afternoon on the water. Meet at the boat
dock. Beginners welcomed and encouraged!!
4:00 p.m. WHOooo Knows: Meet at the restaurant terrace for a presentation with MacKenzie the BARRED
OWL and Trillium the Screech Owl.
6:00 p.m. Evening Flat Water Kayaking: End the day with a nice relaxing cruise around the lake. Learn some
history behind the creation of the lake as we paddle around. Trip will leave from the boat dock. Approximately
1 hour.
Tuesday June 2 April
9:00 a.m. Early Morning Canoe Float: Start your morning off with a relaxing trip on Byrd Lake. Meet us at the
boat dock for a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the peace and quiet the park has to offer.
11:00 a.m. Trees Of North America: Learn to identify trees in the Cumberland Mountain Area. Meet at the
restaurant terrace. We will take a short 1 mile hike on the Cumberland Plateau Trail. Make sure to wear sturdy
shoes, bring water and also a small bag. After the hike you can make your own leaf identification booklet to
take home.
2:00 p.m. Walk In The Woods: Byrd’s Creek trail is an enjoyable 2.1 mile hike. Wear comfortable shoes and
don’t forget some water and a snack if you’d like.We will leave from the park’s main office.
6:00 p.m. Evening Canoe Float: Meet us at the boat dock for an opporunity to see the park from a new
perspective. Cruise around Byrd Lake to explore wildlife as well as unique park features while enjoying the sun
and exercising at a leisurely pace.
Wednesday June 3 April
9:00 a.m. Early Morning Flat Water Kayaking: NO Experience Necessay! Kayaking is something everyone can
enjoy! Meet us at the boat dock for a short trip to the swinging bridge!
11:30 a.m. “Stayin’ Alive!”: A Beginners Guide to Surviving in the Woods. Meet at the Boat Dock and be
prepared for a easy 2 mile hike along the Pioneer Short Loop- to learn basic survival skills. Wear sturdy shoes
and bring water.
2:00 p.m. Afternoon Paddle Board Excursion: Come join us for a fun afternoon on the water. Meet at the boat
dock. Beginners welcomed and encouraged!!

Thursday June 4

boat dock for a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the peace and quiet the park has to offer. April
10:00 a.m. Tour de Homestead: Join us for a guided tour of Cumberland Mt. State Park. Tour will include key
structures and features of the park as well as the Homestead Area. Participants come prepared to walk to
some of the areas, and carpool to other areas. Tour will start at the main office and take approximately 2
hours. ($5.00 entry fee to Homestead tower and museum) Shannon
11:00 a.m. Twig Art: Meet near Shelter 3 to make critters!! Bring your creativity and imagination!! April

11:00 a.m. Macrame: Meet near Shelter 2 to see who can make the most creative necklaces and bracelets out
of tying knots! We provide the materials and you bring your creativity! April
2:00 p.m. Afternoon Paddle Board Excursion: Do you love yoga? Join us for a little fun on the paddleboards as
we practice some basic poses on the lake! April
4:00 Volleyball: Bring your best serve as we enjoy a fun game of volleyball. Game will take place near Shelter

8:00 p.m. Night Hike: Come join us for an easy 1-mile hike around the lake. Remember proper footwear a
flash light. Red lights are prefered to save our night vision. Shannon

10:00 a.m. National Trails Day Hike: Come celebrate National Trails Day with us with a easy 2-mile hike on the
Pioneer Short Loop. Remember to wear sturdy shoes and bring water. April

3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Fishing Derby: Come join us for Free Fishing Day on Byrd Lake. Ages 15 and under can fish
for free and enter any fish caught into contest. Don’t forget fishing poles, bait, sunscreen and water. Meet at
the boat dock to register. If you do not have a pole, one can be provided. April
6:00 p.m. Paddle Board Excursion: The program will start you off with the basics of Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
There wil be a safety and techniquie introduction. Then the group will hit the water for your paddle board
excursion. Please meet at the boat dock. Approximately 1 hour. Shannon
7:30 p.m. Camp Fire: Meet us behind cabin 6 at the fire ring to roast marshmallows and play Game Night
Trivia. Don’t forget to bring chairs and blankets. April
