General Rules for Exhibitors

!
1. All entries must be the work of a single exhibitor.
2. Entries will be received from noon to 4:00 PM on
Thursday, June 11, and must be removed after
4:30 PM on Saturday.
3. There must be an emphasis on fresh plant material. No
use of topical application of “shine products” is allowed.
4. Entry tags for Division I, Horticulture, may be obtained
before the show from the Horticulture chair or General
Show chair, and will also be available at the Registration table. Address labels are encouraged on the tag.
5. Entry tags for Division II, Design, and Division III,
Special Exhibits will be completed by the Flower Show
Committee.
6. Judging will begin promptly at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 12,
and will be performed by Accredited Judges of National
Garden Clubs, Inc.
7. The Flower Show committee will exercise due care, but
cannot be responsible for loss or breakage of designs,
accessories, or containers.

8. Horticulture exhibitors must provide their own clear
glass containers in proportion to size of entry.
9. Refer to Handbook for Flower Shows, pg. 297 for scale
of points. Judges decision is final. Awards may be

withheld if not merited.
AWARDS

Award of Horticulture Excellence – One may be awarded to
the top qualifying exhibit in Division I.
!
Award of Merit – Three may be awarded, one in each Section
A, B, and C.
!
Arboreal Award – Two may be awarded, one in each Section
D and E.
!
Grower’s Choice Award – Two may be awarded, one in each
Section G and H.
!
Sweepstakes Award – a local award presented by the Show
Committee to the exhibitor receiving the most blue ribbons.

Division II, Design Awards:
!
Award of Design Excellence – one may be awarded to the top
qualifying design in Division II.
!
CVC Directors Award – one may be awarded to the top
qualifying exhibit in Section I, Classes 3 or 4.
!
Show Chairman’s Award – one may be awarded to an exhibit in
Section I, classes 1 or 2.
!
People’s Choice Award - one may be awarded based on the
number of votes cast by the show visitors before noon of June 13 .

Sweepstakes Award – a local award presented by the Show
Committee to the exhibitor receiving the most blue ribbons.

Award of Appreciation – given to a non-competitive Educational Exhibit.
Division I
Horticulture Rules, HB pgs. 102-104

1 – Exhibitor must have had entry in their possession for 90
days.
Exceptions: multiple & combination plantings must have been
growing together and in exhibitor’s possession at least six
weeks.
2 – Entrants are responsible for bringing a clear glass
container to display their cut specimens. These containers
should be in proportion to the specimen displayed.
3 – For their educational value, all specimens entered should
be correctly labeled with scientific (botanical) names or the
accepted scientific identification.
4 – Exhibitor may make more than one entry per class if each
entry is a different species, variety, cultivar, type or color.
5 – Cut specimens should not have foliage below water line.
Exception: Gladiolus.
6 – Wedging (using a small, inconspicuous “plug” of plastic
wrap or Styrofoam) is permitted, but must not detract from the
cut specimen.
7 – Plant material may not be altered by the application of oil,
commercial “shine” products, etc. that may artificially change
the natural color and texture.
8 – Double potting is permitted unless prohibited by the
schedule. Inner pot must not be visible.
9 – All entry cards should be filled out in advance, if possible.
They should be filled out in pen. Personal labels are
suggested. Entry cards may be obtained from either the
Horticulture Chairman, Vivienne Spahn, or the Show Chair,
Jan Maynard.

Division II
DESIGN GUIDELINES
1. One design entry will be allowed per class, per exhibitor. All
entries must be registered in advance by May, 28 2015, by
calling Kay Richards (303) 682-2500.
2. A design entered in competition must be the work of only
one exhibitor and that exhibitor's name must appear on the
entry card.
3. Some plant material, fresh or dried, must be used in every
exhibit. Fresh fruits and vegetables are considered plant
material and are allowed. No artificial flowers, fruits, or foliage
may be used.
4. All designs are Designer’s choice of fresh and/or dried
plant materials.
5. Exhibitor may provide suitable background for exhibits in
Section I, Classes 3 and 4, and Section J, Class 1.
6. It is not necessary for the plant material to be grown by the
exhibitor. Fresh plant material may not be treated in any way.
Treated dry plant material is allowed.
7. A card may accompany each exhibit with plant material
named and/or interpretation of design.
8. The official American flag and other national flags are not
permitted within any design in a Standard Flower Show.

Division II
Section I
DESIGN “Nature’s Plan”
"Celebrating June"
Class 1. "Wedding Bells Are Ringing"
Alfresco brunch, a functional table for 2; for a bridal shower.
Staged on a 42" diameter round table, covered with a white
cloth to the floor. Additional covering permitted.
Class 2. "Hit the Road"
A Creative floor design depicting a summer vacation theme.
Staged within a floor space 4' by 4', incorporating a wood
frame 18" by 60". Committee to provide the frame, which may
be painted as desired.
Class 3. "School's Out!"
A Creative small design measuring no more than 8" in height,
width, or depth. Staged at eye level. A background panel
provided by exhibitor, is permitted.
Class 4. "Summer Solstice"
A Creative design, staged on one half of a freestanding 6'
table, 30” deep. Background panel, provided by exhibitor, is
permitted.
Section J
“Beginning to Bloom”
Novice
A novice is an exhibitor who has never won a blue ribbon in
Design in a Standard Flower Show.

Class 1. “Time To Bloom”
Designer’s choice of style. Staged on one half of a
freestanding 6’ table 30’ deep. A background panel, provided
by the exhibitor, is permitted.
Division III SPECIAL EXHIBITS
Section A
Educational Exhibits
Rules for non-competitive Education Exhibits.
1. Exhibits are to instruct and inform the public on goals
and objectives of NGC, Inc. HB pages 223-224.
2. Each exhibit will be staged on a 6’ table, 30” wide.
Covered and skirted in white material, provided by the
committee.
3. The recommended size of Educational Exhibits is a
surface area of 18 sq. feet.
4. No artificial plant material is allowed. Fresh plant
material is encouraged.
