“Kleenex” Society
In this throwaway “Kleenex” society, it’s useful to
understand the frame of mind of people who
come to our treatment centre to regain their
energy and health, and learn what drives them
to make sacrifices in order to continue playing
an active part at the helm of the companies they
manage. After 40 years in the business, I have
noticed that there is now, more than ever before, a tendency to want to stay on in managerial roles. Such difficulty in handing on the baton
to the new generation creates tension, discord
and malaise. This means that our society has
not been able to adjust to the development of
large-scale changes over the last few decades
and I strongly believe that this phenomenon will
become even more marked in the future.
This reflection reminds me of my studies in philosophy and Chinese medicine, in particular the
story of the pupil who goes to ask his master for

advice on how to solve a problem. According to
the rules, pupils could not question their masters unless invited to speak, so he knelt down in
front of his master and waited in silence.
After half an hour had passed, the master was
still deep in meditation before his pupil and
continued to give no sign even after an hour.

At this point the pupil got up, bowed down before his master and said: “Thank you Master, I
have found the answer!”. The answer had been
inside him all along, as the master had provided
him with all the necessary knowledge and teaching. It is the link between memory and the duty
of memory that has to integrate continuity in
society through a forward-looking vision, fitting
into the evolutionary spiral where every one
of us is a particle dependent on all the other
particles as a whole. This all goes to define the
“human phenomenon”, clearly explained by Teilhard de Chardin in his book of the same name.
Man is not a subject to be used and then eliminated when no longer productive, as becoming
something “more” means joining together to a
greater degree. Henri Chenot
Fibre is a class of vegetable substances consisting of long molecular chains (polymers) – very often carbohydrates (polysaccharides) that are part of the skeleton (structure, cell wall, type
of sheath). They are not processed by enzymes in the body and
reach the large intestine without being digested: some of them
can be degraded by the intestinal bacterial flora either wholly
(mucilaginous pectins) or partly (cellulose, hemicellulose) to produce important vitamins in the B and K groups. Fibre can either be soluble (pectin, rubber, mucilage, beta-glucans, resistant
starch …) or insoluble (cellulose, lignin …).
Fibre
Soluble fibre is transformed by bacteria into
short-chain fatty acids and gas, causing an increase in bacterial mass and a drop in pH. Insoluble fibre mostly absorbs water in the large intestine and swells up, improving the consistency
of faeces. In general, fibre increases the weight
of faeces and frequency of bowel movements, as
well as accelerating the transit time in the colon.
A diet lacking in fibre is the most common form
of bad diet in industrialised countries.
This deficiency is linked to the emergence of
certain diseases associated with the culture of
wellness such as constipation, diverticulosis and
cancer of the colon. These diseases mostly occur
in countries where diets are characterised by a
low intake of dietary fibre such as Europe, the
United States and Canada, while they are less
common in Third World countries where there
is a high intake of fibre.

THE CONSUMPTION
OF FIBRE IN THE
PREVENTION OF
CERTAIN DISEASES
Constipation is a frequent phenomenon in
Western countries affecting 20% of the population. A low intake of fibre leads to a slower
transit time in the colon and a reduction in the
weight of faeces and frequency of bowel movements. The primary treatment of constipation
consists of the increased intake of fibre along
with sufficient liquids.
An insufficient intake of fibre is often associated
with an increase in the presence of diverticula
(50-80% of eighty-year-olds are affected by diverticula). Numerous epidemiological studies
have demonstrated that a sufficient intake of fibre in childhood significantly reduces diverticulitis and diverticulosis.
Colorectal carcinomas are the second most
widespread form of cancer in Europe. The risk
of colorectal carcinoma as a result of a diet that
is low in fibre but rich in protein and fat is 8
times greater than for a high-fibre diet with a
low intake of fat and protein. With a low-fibre
diet, not only are more carcinogenic substances
formed, but they also stay in the large intestine
for longer. It also leads to the formation of more
carcinogenic substances. Different studies have
shown a reduction in the frequency of colorectal carcinomas when there is a sufficient intake
of fibre.
In terms of preventing the diseases associated with a diet lacking in fibre and following a
healthy diet, although there is no recommended intake of dietary fibre, it is advisable to consume between 20 and 35 grams a day as part
of a balanced diet including all the main food
groups. Legumes, fruit and vegetables should be
eaten on a regular basis to increase the intake
of fibre and refined cereals should be replaced
by whole grain cereals. In such a diet it is no
longer essential to eat bran or bran-enriched
products.
It is important to underline that fibre consumed
as part of a varied diet including fresh unprocessed vegetables does not have any harmful effect on the absorption of minerals and vitamins:
the demineralising effect only occurs if there is
an excessive intake of concentrated fibre supplements.

RESISTANT STARCH
Two widely accepted suppositions about the digestion of starch have proved false during the last
decade: that starch is hydrolysed and absorbed
more slowly than sugar and that starch is completely absorbed in the small intestine. Numerous studies carried out during the last 20 years
have demonstrated that starch is digested and
that the resulting carbohydrates are absorbed at
different speeds depending on the type of food
and the treatment it has been subjected to. Furthermore, a sizeable amount of starch reaches
the colon, where it is fermented by the intestinal
flora. This is called “resistant starch” and includes
both starch and the products of the hydrolysis
of undigested starch at the bottom of the small
intestine. Resistant starch therefore has a number of similarities with dietary fibre: like most of
the constituent parts of fibre, starch is a carbo-

hydrate and is largely or wholly fermented at
the level of the colon; dietary fibre used to be
defined as the remains of plant cells that are not
digested by the small intestine, but the definition
has now been extended to all indigestible polysaccharides and lignin regardless of their origin.
Resistant starch can consequently be likened to
fibre.
The analysis of numerous foodstuffs ready for
consumption shows that the content of resistant starch generally accounts for less than 5%
of dry matter. However, this figure may increase
through the processes of cooling, canning, heating or freezing. This is especially true for potatoes
and dry legumes. The consumption of resistant
starch has been estimated in different countries
and seems to be approximately 3.5-5 g a day.
Starch that has not been absorbed in the intestine reaches the colon and becomes one of the
substrates for anaerobic fermentation. In a certain sense, what happens to starch at a digestive
level can be compared to what happens to dietary fibre: fermentation leads to the production
of short-chain fatty acids (above all acetate, propionate and butyrate), carbon dioxide, hydrogen
and, depending on the person, methane. One
part of the fatty acids is absorbed at the level of
the colon, but butyrate is used by colonocytes as
an energy substrate. Acetate and propionate are
partly metabolised by the liver.
As resistant starch is not assimilated by the intestine in the form of glucose, it constitutes a
certain loss of energy. It is calculated that the energy value of the fermented fraction at the level
of the colon is 8/9 kj/g (1.9-2.2 kcal/g). Foodstuffs that are rich in resistant starch seem to
play an interesting role in the prevention of the
above-mentioned diseases (cancer of the colon,
arteriosclerosis, obesity).

Treatment programmes
DETOX
ENERGY
This is based on the concept of organic detoxification: deep cleansing of the body to free it of
residue that accumulates naturally, and also as a
result of an irregular lifestyle and diet. It involves
a personalised detox nutritional programme
and energetic, hydroenergetic and drainage
treatments that restore the balance of circulation and psychophysical energy flows.
Individually planned treatment is accompanied
by constant monitoring carried out by specialised medical staff.
This new programme is for those who need to
recover the essential energy required to balance
their vitality. It involves an individual nutritional
programme with the new Chenot Dietetique
line of dietary products made with Protein HP.
It includes the complete treatment programme
and is supplemented by a daily exercise programme with personal trainer and physical exercise in groups. Individually planned treatment
is accompanied by constant monitoring carried
out by specialised medical staff.
WHO IT’S DESIGNED FOR WHO IT’S DESIGNED FOR
Those with excess weight problems, along with
all the resulting consequences ranging from posture and joint problems to circulation and heart
problems. Also for those with stress problems
and related disorders: hypertension, anxiety and
depression, skin disease, cardio-cerebrovascular
and muscular disorders, sexual disorders, sleep
disorders and digestive disorders.
Those with bad dietary habits and a lifestyle that
is not in line with their genetic heritage, which
may compromise their health. Prevention aims
to reduce these risks. The treatment is designed
for those who want to re-establish a good level
of energy and vitality, which is often jeopardised by stress, anxiety, a poor diet and disturbed
sleep. It is also for those who feel overweight
and tired, and want to restore a healthy lifestyle.
ANTI-AGEING
REINVIGORATION
The ageing process follows a well-defined pattern and its negative effects start to become
evident after 35 years of age. It slows down the
general metabolism and therefore the activity of
the thyroid hormones. However, this is not all: as
the body ages, the number of sexual hormones
declines, the digestive functions slow down, tissue dehydrates and muscles and joints stiffen,
while the immune system functions less effectively, struggling to recognise infective agents
and only partially reacting against them, leading
to an accumulation of toxins in cells. The antiageing reinvigoration treatment includes hormone analysis, for a male or female profile and
an examination of body composition that measures fat, lean mass and bone density. A detox
or energy diet will be determined according to
individual needs. Individually planned treatment
is accompanied by constant monitoring carried
out by specialised medical staff.
WHO IT’S DESIGNED FOR
The new medical science of anti-ageing seeks
solutions and products that are able to slow
down the ageing process and give the body its
second youth. This is for those who want to be
guided through the main concepts of the ageing
process and for those with hormone imbalances
that want to restore the natural balance to their
bodies.

Protein HP®: the new frontier in the
world of protein
Protein HP® is the product of advanced research
at Gruppo Chenot’s Biontology Laboratory:
obtained from milk serum through an innovative
extraction procedure, this purified protein can
be completely assimilated by the body, leading
to previously unequalled benefits.
In addition to providing a feeling of satiety, its
beneficial effects on health are evident in weight
loss, osteoporosis and maintaining muscle mass.
The innovation of Protein HP® has become the
cornerstone of the Chenot Diététique® dietary
line.
HOW MUCH PROTEIN
IS THERE IN THE BODY?
Protein accounts for 25% of body weight and
follows a 14-day cycle. This means that the body
keeps 80% of its protein every fortnight and reproduces the remaining 20%.
The daily requirement varies between 35-50 net
grams of protein depending on build, amount of
physical exercise, age and genetic background.
To guarantee the right intake it is important to
choose the right amount of high quality protein
carefully.
THE THREE MAIN
STRENGTHS OF
CHENOT DIÉTÉTIQUE
PRODUCTS
METHOD OF USE
®
Protein HP® A protein diet only guarantees
the best results if it is based on the consumption
of top quality protein. For this reason, Chenot
Diététique® dietary products made with Protein
HP® guarantee the optimum intake of protein
completely digestible by the body.
“Vegetable veloutés, Drinks and fruit Lyogourts”
• Food obtained through the procedure of lyophilisation
• 100% digestible by the body, providing a feeling of satiety.
Although they are derived from milk, they contain no lactose and are also suitable for those
who suffer from intolerances.
• Rehydration of food dried by lyophilisation is
extremely rapid, because the porous structure of the food makes it possible to obtain
the liquid form of the product simply by adding hot or cold water.
The protein used in Chenot Diététique® products is:
• 100% digestible
• 100% natural
• with natural sweetener – Stevia extract
• free of artificial flavourings
• free of preservatives
• sugar-free
• free of colourings
• free of lactose
A one-step healthy meal
The Chenot Diététique® kit helps to satisfy the
daily requirement of high quality protein. It is an
effective dietary regimen that is easy to prepare.
It is particularly suitable for people who want
to balance and control their weight in a healthy
way, as it contributes to the maintenance of the
muscle mass and bone density.
The Chenot Diététique® kit
Depending on your needs, the Chenot Diététique® kit can be used in two different ways.
• 6 days to balance weight
• 3 days to get back in shape
Our bodies are overloaded with food, drink and
stress on a daily basis, so it is important to give
them the necessary time and means to recharge
periodically. The Chenot Diététique® kit is the
ideal way to regain shape and restore energy.
For cases of genuine excess, a three-day remedy is needed. The body has a number of its
own recovery systems; it just needs to be given
sufficient time and the right elements so that it
can activate its responses. Henri Chenot advises
his customers to follow the detox programme
for three days a month. If these three days are
multiplied by 12 months, the body has a total
of 36 days a year for recovery – the result will
definitely be good.

Since ancient times people have said that beauty is in the eye of the
beholder, but it is now increasingly an objective element as a result
of innovation in scientific research.

Cosmetology increasingly uses techniques that
were originally used in the pharmaceutics sector, making the boundary between these two
sciences less distinct. The subsequent advantage for cosmetic products is that they become
more effective and functional, offering genuinely
tangible results.
The transfer of knowledge and technology from
pharmaceutics to cosmetics is a process that
knows no respite and the Chenot Cosmétique
line of skincare products makes use of these
new discoveries to encapsulate great innovation.
Plant stem cells, growth factors, peptides, biotechnology and pure and natural essential oils:
when combined, these are the new allies of
beauty, the real protagonists which can be relied
on to play a preventive role for skin health and
maintain the results over time.
PLANT STEM CELLS
PEPTIDES
ESSENTIAL OILS
Stem cells are biological units that are responsible for the vitality of plants. They can multiply
quickly in the laboratory, making it possible to
produce large quantities of specific substances
(such as flavonoids) which plants produce in
small amounts or only in certain seasons under
natural conditions.
They are especially similar to human cells and
have proved to be effective in protecting skin
cells by preventing premature ageing. In Chenot
Cosmétique products, stem cells supply tired
cells with energy, prompting them to react.
These are fragments of protein that consist of
short sequences of amino acids. They interact
with most natural processes in the human
body. Highly effective in the anti-ageing strategy, peptides are able to bond with certain
enzymes with absolute precision and stimulate
cell activity such as the production of collagen.
The Nutrigen line carries out the skin assimilation phase using Bi-Functional Peptide: an intelligent peptide that delays premature ageing by
adjusting to cell requirements.
These are aromatic volatile oils obtained from
the botanical parts of plants such as flowers, leaves, roots, seeds or bark. Known since
ancient times, they are still used thanks to their
exceptional healing and holistic powers. They
are an ingredient in all Chenot Cosmétique
products and are deftly combined in 100%
pure and natural mixtures which supplement
them and enhance their qualities. They are also
a key ingredient in the mixes used in cabins,
specially formulated to obtain optimal results
from the different techniques used in the Chenot Method.
GROWTH FACTORS
BIOTECHNOLOGY
Growth factors are substances which can control all the processes that regulate the life of
cells in our body.
Biotechnology is a set of processes that uses
cells or enzymes of microbial origin in order to
synthesise or transform raw materials. Hyaluronic acid, collagen and ceramides, which used
to be of animal origin, have been superseded
by similar molecules now obtained through
biotechnological processes. In addition to their
ethical benefits, they also guarantee a high level
of purity and constant quality. The Gruppo
Chenot Biontology Laboratory, which specialises in biotechnology, provides advanced active
substances such as the micro-algae Chlorella,
extracted and purified without the use of
chemical solvents. It is biologically active in the
anti-ageing process and stimulates cell proliferation, regeneration and synthesis of collagen
with a deep moisturising effect.
In hydrotherapy they add a beneficial sensory
aspect that completes the treatment by triggering olfactory stimulation. Instead, Actifs and
Elixirs used in massages penetrate the dermal
structure and act in synergy with the treatment
by supplying vitality and energy.
The result of research at the Biontology Laboratory, one Growth Factor is Glyco-Regen Protein,
a glycoprotein used in the Regenage line that
stimulates cell growth by reversing the damage
caused by ageing and environmental pollution.
