Blackwood RSL will be conducting a traditional service at Coromandel Valley War Memorial, 442 Main Road, Coromandel Valley at 9am. After the service, all are invited to enjoy a hot beverage and morning tea at the Coromandel Community Centre. Stay on until noon to enjoy the displays, entertainment, food and activities on offer. Bec Watt (previously known as BecJM) and her jazz band will perform songs from the war era. performance will bring back memories and inspire audience members to sing and dance along. This Children and adults can get involved in meaningful activities, specifically designed to commemorate and celebrate Anzac day 2015. They will be encouraged to make a commemorative wreath which can be either laid at the War memorial or taken home. There will also be a photo booth where people can pay respect to the meaning of Anzac, by sharing their thoughts on message boards. Meanwhile in and around the Centre history buffs will be able to connect with the history of the Anzacs and other defence personnel from the region, through multimedia interaction, displays and interpretive boards, created by our enthusiastic and passionate National Trust of Coromandel Valley, partners and others. Finish off the morning with a sausage sizzle lunch, coordinated by Coromandel Valley Rotary volunteers. This event is open to all ages and is a time to reflect on and celebrate our freedom. The day is funded by contributions from the community, in particular Blackwood Freemasons and support from The City of Onkaparinga, Coromandel Valley Rotary Club and a team of volunteers from different organisations. Donations are welcome on the day. Website upgrade We are excited to be announcing our new webpage; www.coroalive.org.au We hope you like the new style and format of the site. However, it is a ‘work in progress’ so please bear with us during this transitional period. The webpage has a comprehensive list of all adult and children’s courses and activities available at the centre. We believe it is more user friendly and will provide the community with a broader range of information about the Centre, surrounding activities and organisations. Feel free to provide us with any relevant feedback; positive or negative. Don’t forget to ‘like’ us on our facebook page, and share posts with others that may benefit. Selfie with a Spin Become an artist for the day: reinvent the ‘selfie’ with alternative lighting, angles & props. This workshop will be run by an experienced and dynamic young artist; Steph Fuller who will encourage and guide youth participants through the digital art process. Aimed at 10 to 18 years. This workshop is part of National Youth Week. This year’s theme is ‘It Starts with Us’. Bring own Ipad, camera, smart phone or Ipod. Artists will take photos in and around the Community Centre and Weymouth Oval. One image will be selected and framed for display in a local business and/or gallery. Sunday, 12 April from 1 to 4pm. FREE but bookings essential. This event is courtesy of City of Onkaparinga, National Youth Week grant. Bookings and pre payment essential for all centre Cash, cheque or EFT accepted (sorry no credit cards) programs and activities. School Holiday Activities Anzac Craft Anzac craft, which includes making a decorated goodie bag to take home some pre-cooked Anzac biscuits. Facilitated by Gill from ‘Tweedle themed activity parties’. Aimed at 4 to 7 years. Wednesday, 22 April from 9.30 to 10.30am. $15 per child. Bookings and pre-payment essential. Anzac Craft & Bake Learn to bake Anzac biscuits so that you can share these tasty treats with family and friends. Make an Anzac craft item to wear at this year’s service. Facilitated by Gill from ‘Tweedle themed activity parties’. Aimed at 7 years and above. Wednesday, 22 April from 10.45 am to 12.15pm. $15 per child. Bookings and pre-payment essential. Dying to Tie-Die Children will create a simple design and then apply to a t-shirt (need to supply own 100% cotton prewashed t-shirt for the day). Aimed at 9 years and above. This hands on workshop will be run by an experienced facilitator, but be prepared to go home with coloured hands and don’t forget to wear old clothing. Thursday, 16 April from 9.30 to 11.30am. $15 per child. Bookings and pre-payment essential. The Art Sampler This new class is designed for adults (and young adults 16 years+) who want to get creative, or refresh their art skills. The 8 week course will cover drawing techniques using pencil, graphite, charcoal, pastel and ink, as well as an introduction to painting media. Tap into your creative side in a relaxed environment. Contact the Centre to obtain weekly program plan. All art materials supplied, along with tea and coffee. Held on Tuesday, starting 5 May from 7 to 9pm. $80 for 8 weeks. Bookings and pre-payment essential. Activate Ramsay Place aims to invigorate the unique public space between Colonnades shopping centre, Hopgood Theatre, Noarlunga TAFE and City of Onkaparinga Office at Noarlunga Centre. It will run from 1 February to 30 April 2015 and will feature a range of events and activities from visual art, live music, busking, pop-ups and celebrations to demonstrations, exhibitions, come and try, launches, workshops and more. Community Centres will be represented and featured on Tuesday 21 April, 10am to 1pm, so why not come down to say hello and join in with the fun. Refer to City of Onkaparinga website; www.onkaparingacity.com, for more information. Grief Counselling Coping with loss can be one of the most stressful times in our lives. Come along to this one off session and listen to an expert counsellor explain the theories of grief, ways to support others, grieving strategies, identifying personal coping problems and ideas for getting help. Held on Friday, 29 May from 1 to 2.30pm. $10 per person. Bookings and pre-payment essential. Volunteers Available to Hire Research shows that people who volunteer their time are happier as a result. So let’s make Coromandel Valley the happiest place, by volunteering some of your time. Give Happy, Live Happy! Whether you want to help others, gain valuable experience, share your own skills or be more engaged in your community, we may have just the right thing for you. We currently have vacancies in marketing and promotion, bbq helpers, program volunteers and event organisers to assist with raising funds.
