Profile
• Qualified as an occupational therapist from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2005
• Two years experience completing a NHS basic grade rotation including orthopaedics and stroke rehabilitation
• 18 months working in a community setting and a rehabilitation team
• Four years working in DMRC Headley Court delivering rehabilitation to injured service personnel. During post in Headley
Court specialised in complex lower limb injuries and lower limb amputees
• Experience as a specialist amputee case manager since 2013
Injury Expertise
• Extensive knowledge of lower limb amputee injury care and rehabilitation needs
• Extensive knowledge of complex, orthopaedic lower limb injuries
• Experience in pre-amputation as well as post-amputation requirements
• Extensive experience in dealing with psychological conditions such as PTSD, anxiety and depression in addition too or as a
result of injury
• Experience of musculoskeletal disorders including low back pain and lower limb conditions
• Pain management expertise
• Expert in liaising with treating consultants and health professionals within amputee and complex orthopaedic
rehabilitation
• Knowledge of equipment to assist with activities of daily living, encourage independence and safety within the home
• Knowledge of impact of injury and life changing conditions on a persons life, including vocational impact and support
with change of vocation, where appropriate
• Experience in the management of burns
Assessment Experience
• Specialist amputee initial needs assessment to identify rehabiliation and care needs for injured party
• Experience in making recommendations that should be made to worksite in order for injured party to return to work
• Evaluation of job requirements and analysis of what needs to be undertaken to enable injured party to return to vocation,
if possible. In cases this is not possible explore alternative options, where appropriate
• Experience of completing ergonomic assessment to ensure it is appropriate to support an injured party to return to or
remain in work
• Ability to assess the needs of injured party to ensure they are able to complete activities of daily living safely and
independently and make equipment recommendations where necessary
• Assisting the injured party to adjust and adapt with injury including recommendations for housing adaptations, advice
and support on prosthetics, assisting community (including motability needs), support for family, reintroduction of leisure
pursuits
