ASSOCIATED STUDENTS, INC. CSU NORTHRIDGE March 30, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting (Session II – Meeting 10) of the Associated Students, Inc. Board of Directors was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by A.S. President Tiffany Zaich in the Grand Salon room of the University Student Union. Quorum was present. Vidaure, permission to be recognized.) II. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA MSC (B. Wilcox/N. Alonzo) 17-0-0 to approve the agenda for the March 30, 2015 Board of Directors meeting as presented. III. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES MSC (K. Masmela/O. Block) 17-0-0 to approve the minutes of the March 23, 2015 Board of Directors meeting as presented. IV. SPECIAL PRESENTATION None. V. OPEN FORUM • Alina Sarkissian, Chair of Personnel, introduced new appointee, Anna Stonick, Senator for the College of Arts, Media and Communication. • • • • Michelle Smith, provided an overview of the Matador M.I.N.D. club. Jessica Murillo, CSUN Women’s Rugby, asked for support with a transfer request for Sport Clubs for post-season sports play. Jade Law, Sport Clubs, thanked A.S. for recognizing Sport Clubs. Philip Fadrignela, CSUN Mobile Robotics Club, asked for support with funding request for the club’s Senior Design Showcase. VI. REPORTS a. PRESIDENT – Tiffany Zaich • She attended the CSUN Reputation and Visibility Committee meeting, in which they discussed new design concepts for the university. The new logo will be placed throughout the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles area. • The Klotz Student Health Center is holding elections for the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). • The university clubs and organizations award ceremony is approaching. • She shared a scholarship opportunity for CSUN Dreamers. (H. Jayasinghe, permission to be recognized.) (C. Dashdemirians, permission to be recognized.) b. VICE PRESIDENT – Talar Alexanian • The A.S. presidential candidate debate is now available on YouTube. She encouraged Senators to share the video with their constituents. Elections will be taking place this week. The election results event will be taking place in the Thousand Oaks room. • L.A. City Mayor, Eric Garcetti, will be holding the State of the City address at the VPAC on April 14th. Senators are being asked to save the date. • Council of Chairs will be meeting this week to work on the farmer’s market resolution. • The last day to print commencement tickets is April 17th. • Happy spring break! c. CHIEF OF STAFF – Jorge Reyes • Cabinet is currently working on a resignation questionnaire, which will be presented in the next two weeks. d. CHAIR OF FINANCE – Zoya Zehra on behalf of Emili Priyatmo • Assistant Chair of Finance, Zoya Zehra, reported on the balances: STAR: $ 165,126 Unassigned Contingency: $ 48,563 Clubs and Organizations Assigned: $ 0 Capital Improvement $ 74,835 TUC $ 2,162 Clubs and Organizations Travel: $ 0 • She discussed finance items on the agenda. e. ATTORNEY GENERAL – Adan Garay • Due to the Cesar Chavez holiday, Senators are asked to make up their office hours on another day. f. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS i. EXTERNAL AFFAIRS – Sevag Alexanian • He discussed SB-2014-15-07: CSUN Smoke-Free Policy. • The committee is currently working on the Snap Chat Geo Tag Filter Legislative Referral with the Marketing Department. • They would like to host a special presentation to discuss the university’s donation process. ii. INTERNAL AFFAIRS – Kimberly Worland • The updated A.S. Children’s Center policies have been sent to admin for review. • The committee is currently working on a resolution for Metro ticket subsidies. • They’ve also voted on a resolution for A.S. President’s Day. • The Legislative Referral to replace stolen AV equipment has been tabled indefinitely. iii. UNIVERSITY AFFAIRS – Karissa Masmela • She discussed SB-2014-15-08: Funding for Student Clubs/Organizations Sign Language Interpreter. • The CSUN App Jam launch is this week. The committee is still working on a resolution in support of the App Jam. • The committee will be meeting with Dr. Watkins to discuss sport club recruitment. • The committee will also be working with Dr. Mark Stevens regarding the Legislative Referral on counseling services. g. GENERAL MANAGER – David Crandall • The recruitment process is underway for an Accounting Assistant, Ticket Office Supervisor, HR Assistant and Recreation Sports Rock Wall Coordinator. • He discussed the annual budget approval process. He commends the Finance Committee for their involvement this year. • The campus will be closed tomorrow in celebration of Cesar Chavez’s birthday. h. UNIVERSITY ADVISOR – Patrick Bailey • No report. i. FACULTY ADVISOR – Dr. Veda Ward • No report. VII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. VIII. NEW BUSINESS A. ACTION ITEMS i. APPOINTMENTS a. MSC (K. Masmela/J. Perez de Leon) 19-0-0 to approve Anna Stonick as Senator for the College of Arts, Media and Communication. President Zaich invited A. Stonick to take a seat on the Board. ii. FINANCE RECOMMENDATIONS With general consent from the Board, President Zaich struck out Finance Recommendation #1 for Sport Clubs Post Season Sports Play. iii. a. CSUN Mobile Robotics Club: Senior Design Showcase MSC (B. Wilcox/T. Yahiayan) 19-0-1 to allocate $1,750 to CSUN Mobile Robotics Club for Senior Design Showcase from Unassigned Contingency. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS a. MSC (T. Yahiayan/V. Leal) 19-0-1 to approve the constitution of Matador M.I.N.D. (taking Mental Illness in a New Direction). IX. LEGISLATIVE REFERRALS Referral Fix the Broken Light on the Pathway to the G3 Parking Lot Author T. Alexanian Referred to: University Affairs X. ANNOUNCEMENTS • • B. Wilcox announced that there are multiple openings at the Student Recreation Center (SRC). Applications are due by April 4th. J. Ghotra shared the “sign of the week.” XI.
