May 6, 2015 Town Center Lantern District Street Improvement Project PHASE 2A Construction Alert / Look-Ahead Schedule This Construction Alert will provide you the most current information for the Project, along with frequent e-mail blasts sent only if additional work items occur that are not described herein. WHERE: Upcoming construction will take place at the following locations over the following period (May 11, 2015 through May 29, 2015), although weather or unforeseen issues may impact the schedule at any time. Please also see map below. A) DEL PRADO FROM RUBY LANTERN TO GOLDEN LANTERN (INLAND SIDE) – The majority of the work in this area has been completed. Clean up and general landscaping will continue going forward. Also, there is still a portion of sidewalk that needs to be completed at PCH/Golden Lantern. B) DEL PRADO FROM RUBY LANTERN TO VIOLET LANTERN (OCEAN SIDE) - Parkway Improvements on Del Prado between Ruby Lantern and Violet Lantern continue. The curb and gutter has been poured and the street has been repaired near the gutter edge. Placement of underground electrical, irrigation, trees/landscaping/lighting, and new sidewalk will be done during this period. C) DEL PRADO FROM VIOLET LANTERN TO GOLDEN LANTERN (OCEAN SIDE) – Demolition in this area started during the week of May 4th. Parkway improvements (similar to other areas) will commence during this period. D) LANTERN DISTRICT ARCHWAY STRUCTURE/FOUNDATIONS – Fabrication of the archway and other components continues off site. Archway tower construction that can be done prior to the placement of the archway is complete at this time. The archway is scheduled to be placed on the towers in mid-June. The City is working diligently to maintain parking in the construction areas (at least on one side of the Del Prado). There may be times when parking is impacted during various work activities, however. WHAT: The City of Dana Point will be continuing with streetscape construction on the PCH/Del Prado Streetscape Improvement Project, in the Lantern District, which will result in construction work on the following streets: 1. 2. 3. 4. Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) between Crystal Lantern and Blue Lantern (COMPLETE) Del Prado between PCH and Ruby Lantern (COMPLETE) Del Prado between Ruby Lantern and Copper Lantern/PCH Del Prado Entry Archway and PCH Banner Poles Our City construction management team (City team) will closely monitor construction activities in order to minimize impacts and ensure all work is done within normal construction guidelines. During construction, the public may experience the following: Businesses will remain open with parking in rear Construction hours are generally from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday During construction hours, one down coast lane of traffic will remain open the majority of the time Access to businesses will remain available as much as possible Increased truck / construction traffic Traffic control / possible delays Road detours, greater alley use Noise / dust / vibrations to limited extent Temporary on-street parking, sidewalk and bicycle lane restrictions WHY: This second phase will complete Del Prado Street from Ruby Lantern to Copper Lantern. This will help create the pedestrian friendly, mixed use environment for shopping, dining, and socializing envisioned in the Town Center Plan. The Project is a result of years of planning and coordination between South Coast Water District (SCWD) and numerous members of our residential and business communities who worked collaboratively to create the Downtown vision. WHEN: City Construction work started January 5th, following completion of SCWD’s underground water and sewer work. City Del Prado Construction work is scheduled for completion in September of 2015.
