Irish Repertory Theatre is On the Move
W
The Irish Repertory Theatre, a program of TIS is moving forward to securing a place in local theater-going
audiences. First, IRT has entered and agreement with the Tallahassee Little Theatre to be its permanent
home. IRT’s production of “Da,” a 1978 Comedy by Irish playwright Hugh Leonard, will be performed in
late November.
IRT is fortunate to have Chuck Olsen as its Artistic Director, along with a Company of noted area actors. Jim
McMurtry, Lanny Thomas, Alan Kagan and Ryan Burke are seasoned performers who are excited about having the
opportunity to perform Irish plays.
The Celtic Knots Playwriting Contest will be run solely through IRT. Selected one-act plays will be performed as
part of FSUs April New Horizons series of new, unperformed plays written by MFA School of Theatre students. New Horizons plays are staged in the FSU Studio Theatre. IRT will accept plays and choose winning plays, casts
and direct the plays in staged readings. Celtic Knots is open to all aspiring playwrights, not just FSU students. IRT members encourage anyone with an urge to write about being, loving, intrigued by all things Irish to pick up
a pen and write a play! Play submissions should be sent to Celtic Knots Playwriting Contest, P.O. Box 37157,
Tallahassee, FL 32315. Information: Judy Gross 383-0087. Tallahassee-Sligo Exchange
T
he Tallahassee-Sligo letter exchange continues, with a recent batch
of letters received from children in Sligo, and letters are currently
being written here in Tallahassee to return. This program of exchange of letters, poetry, drawings, art work and more has been in action for
about five years now, and each year the kids seem more and more enthralled
to find out more about kids in another part of the world. For further information call Colleen Dunn at 850-443-3501.
Currently in the works are plans to coordinate with Tallahassee and Sligo Irish musicians for a musician exchange sometime
this spring or summer. Watch our website for further details on this new program.
