Kristen Atwood, Principal Denver Discovery School 3480 Syracuse St Denver CO 80238 Welcome to DDS! We are so excited to welcome you into the Denver Discovery parliament of owls! Whether you are starting with us in the 6th grade or adding to our existing 7th grade we are excited to celebrate all our new students. If you have not already, please take some time to look at our website. It contains a lot of valuable information and we would love for you to read it and bring to us any questions you may have. First of all, some dates to keep in mind: •
June 8/9/10 – DDS Registration right here at DDS from 3pm to 7pm (come when convenient for you) • August 21st -­‐ 6th grade Orientation from 8-­‐12pm • August 24th – First day of school for 6th and 7th grade • September 23/24/25 -­‐ 6th grade Expedition to Expedition Backcountry Adventures Uniforms will be available for ordering May 1 – no rush with ordering these as kids will grow a lot in the next few months. We will provide you with that information when it becomes available. As you know, we have a very robust specials and enrichment line-­‐up here at DDS. From the things that students participate in on a daily basis – Spanish, Physical Education, Orchestra, Choir, Visual Arts, Performance Arts, Engineering – to our once a week programs like Italian cooking, rainbow loom, graphic design boot camp, garden club, or Destination Imagination, just to name a few, we keep kids busy, growing, and engaged in the world around them. To keep these programs going to strong we have one direct giving event per year. This year, it is on May 8. Please save the date! Speaking of specials, if your child is interested in taking advanced Mandarin (Chinese) please contact Carrie Hirsch at [email protected]. We are considering adding Chinese as a Special but we want to gauge interest before we commit. Below you will find a link to a Sign-­‐Up Genius for home visits. We love getting to know our new students and want to do so as soon as possible and in an environment that makes them comfortable so our staff will be visiting you as you sign up. The first fifty families that sign up will get a visit from Principal Atwood. After that you will be getting a visit from one of our incredible All-­‐Stars (see the website for bios on each one of our amazing staff).
