DGC BC COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT RULES FOR
WORKING ON DISTANT LOCATIONS FOR
DGC MEMBERS/PERMITEES
DEFINITION OF A DISTANT LOCATION: Any Employee who lives more than
thirty kilometers (30km) from the edge of a Studio Zone (other than the Vancouver
Studio Zone) shall be deemed as working on distant location (see Article 22.5).
So, to be clear, no DGC member can agree to lesser terms and conditions than
provided under our Collective Agreement (i.e. you cannot agree to work as a “local”
in Victoria if you in fact reside in Vancouver).
LOCAL HIRE RULE: In any Studio Zone other than the Vancouver Studio Zone, the
Employer shall have the right to hire local Production Assistants, Assistant Location
Managers and Location Scouts, provided that any Union Members in the area are given
first consideration for such positions (see Article 22.4).
TRAVEL TO AND FROM DISTANT LOCATION ZONE: If you work on the day
that you travel then the travel time is part of your workday. If you travel on a day when
no work is to be performed then you get one day’s pay at your daily or weekly pro-rated
rate of pay (see Article 22.6 c).
ACCOMMODATIONS ON DISTANT LOCATIONS ZONE: The employer is
required to provide suitable hotel accommodations for employees. The lodging is to be
single occupancy equal to “CAA” standards. You are not required to share a room (see
Article 22.7).
PER DIEM ON DISTANT LOCATIONS ZONE: The Employee shall be paid in
advance a per diem allowance commensurate with the standard of living in the work area
but not less than Sixty-Five Dollars ($65.00). However, if meals are provided at the
expense of the Employer, the per diem allowance may be reduced in the following
manner: Breakfast, Fourteen Dollars and Fifty Cents ($14.50); Lunch, Twenty Dollars
and Fifty Cents ($20.50) and Dinner, Thirty Dollars ($30.00). The day of departure and
the day of return shall be considered distant location days, not hold-over days. Hold-over
days are the days you are not shooting (generally the weekend) and the hold over per
diem is One Hundred and Thirty Dollars ($130.00) a day (see Articles 22.8 & 22.9).
