Fuel FAQ - Diesel HPR
Fuel FAQ Diesel HPR – High Performance Renewable What is Diesel HPR? Diesel HPR is a high performance renewable fuel engineered to maximize performance in clean diesel engines. Refined from clean biomass sources, Diesel HPR outperforms both diesel and biodiesel in performance, emissions and value. Diesel HPR meets the ASTM D975 petroleum diesel (ULSD) specification for use in all diesel engines. What makes Diesel HPR unique? Diesel HPR is a unique renewable fuel that is very different than biodiesel. While produced from clean renewable sources, Diesel HPR is refined in a manner that gives it a chemical composition nearly identical to petroleum. Due to these properties, Diesel HPR meets the nationally recognized fuel specification required by engine manufactures. How does Diesel HPR perform compared to diesel or biodiesel? Diesel HPR performs better. It has 40% higher cetane than conventional diesel for smoother combustion and a quieter ride. Diesel HPR burns cleaner and more efficiently, and delivers more power and torque for your vehicle. And unlike biodiesel, Diesel HPR provides uncompromised cold weather performance. What are the environmental benefits? California has set the goal of reducing the carbon intensity of its transportation fuels by 10 percent by 2020. California Air Resource Board studies show that renewable diesel can reach up to a 70 percent greenhouse gas reduction compared to petroleum diesel. And because of its affordability, Diesel HPR can reduce harmful emissions (NOx, PM, CO) in the state’s most vulnerable communities. What is it made from? While Diesel HPR does not contain biodiesel, it is made from similar renewable biomass sources including recycled fats and oils. How is it made? Diesel HPR is produced through Neste’s advanced hydrotreating technology. During the production process, renewable oil molecules are split into separate chains creating hydrocarbons that are nearly identical to conventional diesel fuel. What is the price? Propel sells Diesel HPR a price competitive with traditional diesel. Biodiesel is often priced higher than traditional diesel, so we anticipate being less expensive than biodiesel. Is the transition to Diesel HPR permanent? Just as we see advancements in other technologies, we see Diesel HPR as advancement in clean fuels. Propel is committed to identifying and offering Californians the most advanced low carbon fuels that meet our high standards for quality and sustainability.
