We have been growing tree fruits in Lake Country since 1949. We have 45 acres of high density apples including Sunrise, Gala & Ambrosia. We also have a 10 acre vineyard. Our farm is west facing overlooking Okanagan Lake. We speak English and French. Job Description: Apple Thinners remove apples from clusters of fruit by hand. Thinning is an essential step in our quality assurance program. This job is physically demanding requiring the use of a ladder on a slope. Successful applicants will work outside in mid-summer heat. Limited camping accommodation is available on-farm. Applicants residing off-farm must have reliable transportation to and from the farm. Duties: − − − Removing apples by hand according to the quality and quantity standards set out by your supervisor. Following food safety protocol as described by your supervisor Tree and vine training including rubbing, clipping and tying as necessary Hours: − 6 days/week, 8 hours/day (7am-3pm) − 5-6 weeks, mid-June to late-July − Applicants must be available from earlyJune to late-July Skills: − Using both hands in a continual flow − Using a ladder on slopes − Working in a team environment − Ability to self-motivate while doing repetitive tasks − Able to bend, lift, twist and stand/walk for 8 hours per day − Must participate in on farm food safety programs − Consistent attendance and punctuality − Fluent in English or French Experience: − One season of manual labour an asset Wage: Employment Status: − $12.25/hour − Seasonal Please note: − Applicants must be legal to work in Canada and possess valid Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) − Overtime provisions do not apply for agricultural positions − Work hours are dependent on weather and crop volume Please apply online at www.dorenbergorchards.ca
