Against that background, we would like to enquire with you whether you would be interested to meet with Mr. Amr J. Qari, Senior Procurement Specialist of the AsDB, on Friday, 10 July 2015, 10:30 – 12:30 hrs, in Berlin Venue: EIC premises, Kurfuerstenstrasse 129, 10785 Berlin to obtain first-hand and detailed information about the “Business Opportunities for European contractors on AsDB-funded contracts”. In this context, we would like to share with you the following background information: About Asian Development Bank (AsDB) AsDB is an international development finance institution whose mission is to help its developing member countries reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their people. Headquartered in Manila, and established in 1966, AsDB is owned and financed by its 67 members, of which 48 are from the region and 19 are from other parts of the globe. AsDB’s main partners are governments, the private sector, nongovernment organizations, development agencies, EIC – associated with FIEC – represents contractors’ associations from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey 2 community-based organizations, and foundations. Although most lending is in the public sector and to governments - AsDB also provides direct assistance to private enterprises of developing countries through equity investments, guarantees, and loans. In addition, its triple-A credit rating helps mobilize funds for development. Under Strategy 2020, a long-term strategic framework adopted in 2008, AsDB will follow three complementary strategic agendas: inclusive growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. In pursuing its vision, ASDB’s main instruments comprise loans, technical assistance and grants and its operations in 2014 amounted to approximately $23 billion. To learn more about AsDB, please visit www.ADB.org. About the Speaker Mr. Amr J. Qari currently serves as Senior Procurement Specialist at the Vietnam Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank. His responsibilities include planning of project procurement, review of procurement compliance with AsDB’s guidelines, and provision of procurement and project administration advisory for AsDB financed projects. Before joining AsDB, Mr. Qari worked as a corporate lawyer at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York, where he specialized in syndicated lending, acquisition finance and project finance transactions. Mr. Qari's experience has included the representation of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, The Blackstone Group and JPMorgan in financing transactions in the power and consumer goods sectors. Prior to joining Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, he worked as a management consultant advising Altria Group and other Fortune 500 companies on business process redesign initiatives. Mr. Qari, a national of the United States, holds an MBA in Finance from the Kellogg School of Management, a Juris Doctor degree in law from Northwestern University School of Law, a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelors degree in Multinational Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
