Exchange Club Student of the Month Eastwood Elementary April 2015
Exchange Club Student of the Month
Eastwood Elementary April 2015
Two predominant qualities of any student of the month are good character and
leadership. Character begins in oneself. It is having ethical values and personal integrity.
Ethical values mean knowing right from wrong and choosing correctly. What guides this
“choosing” is one’s personal integrity. Oprah Winfrey describes “integrity” simply as “doing
the right thing, knowing that no one is going to know whether you did it or not” A person with
integrity acts according to the values and principles they hold and believe in. Leadership can
be expressed in many ways. Three specific skills a leader has include an openness and joy of
learning, eager and positive participation in worthwhile activities that lead to growth or
understanding, and serving others for the common good of all.
Our April Student of the Month walked into sixth grade with many leadership skills. She
enjoys learning and thinks seriously about her school work. This is evident in the quality of her
written and oral responses in class and her discussions with teachers about assignments, and
grades. She is also an eager participant in the classroom be it reading aloud, helping another
student in some way, or if no one volunteers immediately for some job or duty, she does. She
makes time for what matters. Outside the classroom, our Student of the Month is involved in a
plethora of extra-curricular activities including Track, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and
Softball to come. She tutors younger students at recess, is a member of Student Council, and
helped at Kindergarten Open House. She has been a solid participant representing our school
as well in our Spelling and Math Bowls, doing all this while earning straight A’s in all her
classes for the past three marking periods.
What is most impressive about our April Student of the Month is her character, her own
integrity. She has respect for everyone and knows how to cordially remove herself from
situations that are not in her or other’s best interests. She can express herself honestly to
others without creating conflict or seeming too harsh. She is also honest about her won
personal strengths and weaknesses. She has high standards for herself and is not afraid to
continually ask for constructive criticism and direction to be a better overall person in order to
serve and help make ours a better world.
It is with great joy that we recognize today our most deserving April Exchange
Club Student of the Month,
Grace Sigsbee!
