For Srikala Reddy, bringing a baby home and raising her
Tell us about your experience.
For Srikala Reddy, bringing a baby home and
raising her as her own came naturally. Read on as she
speaks to You & I about it.
When I am asked why exactly I considered
adopting a baby, I cannot pin down a reason.
But this is something I have always wanted to
do. In the beginning, things did not move as
quickly as I wanted to. But the moment I laid
my eyes on Riya, I knew she was all mine;
my little daughter. How I felt as she nestled in
my arms... There couldn’t have been a more
beautiful feeling. Words cannot express the
joy I felt.
What kind of support did you get
when you made your decision and
during the process of adoption?
My family and friends understood what I was
doing and supported me in every way. I am
lucky to have an understanding family. I knew
I couldn’t do this without their support. My
children, Rohit and Sanjana, were as excited
as I was about the whole idea. Of course, we
were a little intimidated to begin with. It was
new to all of us and I did not know what to
expect. It did take us a while to get used to
the idea of having a little baby in the house.
The proud siblings say that this kid is the best
of everything. And every time they are away
from home, they keep calling to check what
she’s been doing! Each day, we eagerly wait
for the new ‘firsts’ that come. We keep finding
ourselves lost in time watching and enjoying
each little thing Riya does. She is so loved by
our entire family and friends. Every day there
are cuddles and kisses, and Riya definitely
enjoys the constant attention!
How has the journey been?
With Riya as a part of our family, I have
grown as a person. I feel I am doubly blessed;
I have two lovely children by birth, and now
my little one has become a part of our lives.
Often people remark that I have acted nobly
in bringing Riya home, but I completely
disagree with that. This is something I have
done for myself and Riya has transformed me
into a much better person today. Sometimes
I feel she’s done more for me than I have
for her! My life is filled with so much love
and happiness, more than I ever could have
imagined. Riya is all of a year-and-a-half old
now, but it feels like she’s been a part of my
life forever. I couldn’t possibly do without
her – none of us could.
