Many thanks to Emilio for
keeping Emory looking so good
and efficiently run. The Board
has approved a budget for the
coming year that reduced the
monthly unit maintenance while
improving the property values.
We have a good team working
for us.
Thanks to all the residents for
responding so positively to our
Electric Panel project. We have
almost 400 signed up at this
point and once this project is
completed it will also add to the
value of our investment .
It has been great to be president
of such an active community and
I want to thank all the volunteers who have given of their
time, skills and energy to organize events for our residents. I am
proud of each and every group
that donates time and talent to
our community.
I want to encourage any other
resident with new ideas to come
forward and get involved. I am
certain you will get a lot of support from your fellow residents
and we will all be the better for
it. Lists of the various activities
and committees are in the office
for anyone that wants to join
them.
Please take a minute and consider how you can help.
Thanks to all our year-round
residents for their welcoming
spirit and understanding in
accepting the snowbird residents. Those of us who can only
spend some of our time here
appreciate your friendliness. As
a community together we make
a great team.
Snowbirds tell me that while
they leave, it is with some sadness and they look forward to
coming back to their friends in
Florida.
The Board has also approved
two other projects to be completed this year: Painting of all
the villas and the Clubhouse and the replacement of
all the electrical street number
signs. In the Fall things will be
impressively different.
May I wish everyone a happy
and healthy summer. For those
that travel, have a successful
trip and a safe return. Let us all
plan for the next season and
enjoy the good times together.

Seasonal Residents… Important!
Please update or confirm your contact information in the office before you leave. Electrical
panels will continue to be installed throughout the summer. The Management office must be
able to contact you and have access to your apartment if your panel is to be replaced over
the summer.
How to close your apartment for the summer…
For seasonal
residents the Emory office has instructions available listing the steps that need
to be taken to close your apartment for the off season. They are available in
both English and French.

Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs
INGREDIENTS:
12 eggs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
4 slices bacon

A belated Happy Birthday! to Fran Feldhandler
of Villa 33 who celebrated a birthday in March.
If you know of any birthdays, anniversaries , special events or
milestones being celebrated by yourself or one of your Emory
neighbors please call the Emory Office before the end of each
month. We will include the resident’s name and event in the next
month’s Emory Villas Gazette along with a congratulation on
behalf of all of us at Emory.
1.Place eggs in a saucepan, and cover with
cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover, and
let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12
minutes. Remove from hot water, and
cool. To cool more quickly, rinse eggs under cold running water.
2.Meanwhile, place bacon in a large, deep
skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until
evenly brown. Alternatively, wrap bacon in
paper towels and cook in the microwave
for about 1 minute per slice. Crumble and
set aside.
3.Peel the hard-cooked eggs, and cut in
half lengthwise. Remove yolks to a small
bowl. Mash egg yolks with mayonnaise,
crumbled bacon and cheese. Stir in mustard. Fill egg white halves with the yolk
mixture and refrigerate until serving.

Hello everyone,
I want to use the "Emory Villas Gazette" volunteers column to give you a
short message.
Above and Beyond
As you know, Robert "Bob" Gosselin, president of the Entertainment Committee, was not here this winter and he had asked me to replace him for this season. I
had big shoes to fill and I could not afford to do this alone, because my feet are too
small. So I had the help of Bob's acolytes that supported him last year and who were
willing to trust me and help me meet the challenge. I want to thank them officially,
they are in alphabetical order : Alain and Lisette Lapointe, Jean-Yves and Nicole
Quimper, Madeleine and Normand Therrien and my boyfriend Réjean Trudel. To all, a
huge THANK YOU, we did it!
The Emory Entertainment Committee had a great success this winter at dinners/ holiday parties and cookouts and it is in large part to our regular volunteers. I would like to thank them personally, they are :
Claude Bernier, Jeannot Caron, Armand Gosselin, Gisèle Gosselin, Georgette Goupil, Lucie Lacasse, Marcel
Lacasse, Jacques Lacroix, Daniel Langlais, Luc Lefebvre, Nicole Picard, Gilles Poirier, Lise Poirier, Armand Thibeault, et Therese Thibeault.
I would also like to thank the volunteers who have kindly agreed to take on some
evenings of sports and recreation, for the petanque:
Yvon Gaudreau, Dominique Neury and Normand Therrien. For billiards: Jacques
Viau and for Texas Hold'em: Jacques Desautels. Thank you.
I would also like to thank all the residents and guests of Emory who bought tickets
and participated in different activities.
You know, without volunteers, a committee is nothing. Without their help with the activities and events, we
could not have been as successful as we were.
In closing, I would also like to thank Emilio Garcia and his team for their availability and co-operation, it was
very much appreciated.
I hope I have not forgotten anyone but if that's the case, my appologies and tell yourself that this message
is for you also.

Current Projects

Continue progressing with the installation of electrical panels.

Begin the power washing, stucco repair and painting .

As we work on the buildings, all dead and diseased hedges
and vegetation will be pulled out. After the painting project is
complete a site wide inventory will be taken then re-planting
and additional planting will begin.
Laundry Room Changes Coming to Emory
Problem with a washing
machine or dryer?
A contract has been signed with Coin Mach. You can expect delivery of
the new washers and dryers within 4 - 6 weeks. They are operated with a
reloadable laundry card. No more quarters!
Write down the 6 digit number (example above) and
call :
A machine will be installed in the office where you can load more
money on your laundry card. Each washer and dryer will tell you exactly
how much money is on your card when you insert it to pay for use.

in 1-3 business days.

INGREDIENTS:
2 (10 ounce) packages matzo crackers
1/2 cup butter
Matzo Ball
Soup
6 eggs
salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
2 onions, minced
5 ounces matzo meal
96 ounces chicken broth
DIRECTIONS:
1.Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.
2.Break matzo crackers into small pieces, and place in
a large bowl. Add water to cover; allow to soak for a
few minutes, until soft. Drain off excess water.
3.Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and
stir in drained matzos; stir until mixture is dry
and slightly brown. Remove from heat, and mix
in eggs, salt and pepper to taste, parsley, and
onions.
4.Mix in just enough matzo meal to make mixture hold together. Roll one golf ball-size matzo
ball. Place matzo ball in the boiling water to
test the mixture. The ball must rise to the top
of the water and not break apart. If it does not
rise, then too much matzo meal was added. In
this case, add another beaten egg to the mixture and try again. When desired consistency is
reached, roll all of mixture into golf ball size
spheres.
5.In a large saucepan, bring chicken broth to a
slow boil over medium heat; add balls to broth.
Serve soup as the balls rise to the top of the
broth.

A young boy enters a barber shop and the
barber whispers to his customer, "This is the
dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I
prove it to you."
The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and
two quarters in the other, then calls the boy
over and asks, "Which do you want, son?" The boy takes the quarters
and leaves.
“What did I tell you?" said the barber. "That kid never learns!"
Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming
out of the ice cream store.
"Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters
instead of the dollar bill?"
The boy licked his cone and replied,
"Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!"

or washing machines to clean throw rugs
or any other heavily soiled items.

Please do not put bulk items in the garbage rooms if they block your neighbor’s
access to the recycle bins and the dumpster.

Please make sure all monthly maintenance payments are made payable to your villa and
have your bldg# and apartment letter on the check.

A Story from one of our Residents
Miracles Happen
At birth, our daughter was diagnosed with a severe lung disease. She was treated at the Montreal
Children Hospital and with good care, the disease was well controlled, until she reached 20 years old.
It started deteriorating and at age 24, she was using oxygen constantly. Then we learned that a lung
transplant program was offered at the Toronto General Hospital. Our daughter applied and she was
finally accepted on December 22 1988. On January 5 1989, our daughter, my husband and I, we moved
to Toronto. She was often sick, very sick, was hospitalized often. When she had an infection, she would
be removed from the program.
On September 13, 1989, we had a telephone call from the Toronto General Hospital. An organ was
available for her. We drove to the hospital and she was taken in charge immediately. At 7:30 the next
morning, she was taken into the Intensive Care Unit with her new lungs. It took her a month before she
could get rid of the mechanical respirator.
In October 2002, our daughter and her husband came back from Russia with a little boy they had
adopted.
Our daughter was not feeling too good then and in February 2003, her kidneys failed. She had to do
peritoneal dialysis until October 28, 2003, when her husband gave her one of his kidneys. Since then, she
lives fully, she has a very normal life. As one of the nurses said: "Lady, three organs, that's all you can
get".
Last September 14, 2014, we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of her new life.
Miracles happen. Please do not hesitate to sign for organ donation.

Front Office and Clubhouse:
Sunday- Saturday 8:00 am - 10:00 pm
Clubhouse rooms are locked up
beginning at 9:45 pm.
Business Office:
Monday - Friday
8:00 am- 4:00 pm
Closed 12:00-1:00pm for lunch.
What to Expect When Submitting a Work Order
Work orders are separated into 5 categories, each of which has a
time frame for completion.
The first is General Maintenance. This would be dirty garbage
rooms, broken outside faucets, ripped soffit screens, etc. These
work orders will take approximately 3 business days to complete.
The second category is Irrigation. This category is primarily for
broken/non-working sprinklers. Work orders in this category take
approximately 5-7 business days. Any broken sprinkler which is
flooding an area is dealt with as soon as possible.
Letters to the Editor
The third category is Electrical. This category includes broken
lollipop lights, cement pole lights out and faulty or damaged wiring. Usually the electrician needs to be called to complete the repair. Expect 5-7 days to complete.
We would like to hear what you have to say. Please submit letters by the end of the third week of each month for
inclusion in the following month’s newsletter.
The fourth is Landscaping. This category includes sod, replacement of dead or diseased bushes and trees. Expect 3-5 business
days to complete the work order.
The fifth is Plumbing. This includes plumbing problems in the
clubhouse bathrooms and Villa common areas. The completion
time for this category depends on the size and extent of the job.

request.
