Background
The numbers of people holding a doctorate degree are
rising
Their training mainly prepares them for a career in
academia
Only few of them will obtain a secured position in
academia
Due to the economic crisis, job opportunities as well as
funding have in many countries been reduced
The European Young Researchers’ Platform
Many European countries are currently addressing
obstacles in research career development
Many institutions and associations are actively involved
in improving the situation of young researchers
(contributors)
Efforts to help young researchers are sometimes
duplicated by different organizations
The European Young Researchers’ Platform
Improve and harmonise data and information on the situation of young
researchers
Compare young researchers situations in different European countries
and explore differences and similarities within a global context
Identify problems and advocate best practices for the development of
researchers’ careers
Map existing policy tools and regulations and propose new
evidence- based ones. Foster the interaction of young researchers
with policy makers and participation in policy making processes
Encourage young researchers to be proactive about their own career planning
