PRESS RELEASE - European Science TV and New Media Awards Evening

PRIZES FOR EUROPE’S TOP SCIENCE PRODUCTIONS
Scientists and the TV/AV Media link up to debate the key role of the audio-visual
Media in revealing the science and technology behind current environmental
issues.
We are pleased to announce that the European Science TV and New Media Awards Evening
will take place at the Science Centre in Lisbon ‘Ciencia Viva’ on 28 November 2014. This
annual event is organized by Euroscience and EuroPAWS, two public awareness of science
organisations who have joined forces in a continuing partnership with Ciencia Viva to present
awards for the best European science productions in nine categories, and bring cross-cultural
issues to the fore.
An international jury of scientists and TV/New Media people along with the general public were
at ‘the European Science TV and New Media Festival’ earlier this year which took place as part
of the Science in the City programme at the ESOF congress in Copenhagen. Together with
ESOF delegates they viewed productions in various categories and the Jury selected the eight
prize-winners. An innovation this year was to add a further Award for the best Science TV
Documentary as judged by a teenage audience. Three countries, Portugal, UK and Denmark,
took part in this pilot venture and the enthusiasm generated suggests that this development
will flourish in future years. The nine winners will be officially awarded in the categories listed
below in Lisbon on 28 November 2014.
This year, we again welcomed many innovative programmes and productions including from
countries beyond the main players in science productions. Some of these are among the
shortlisted productions below.
