Fitness Instruction and Exercise Science Professional Certificate Program: A partnership with The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) & The American Council on Exercise (ACE) Fitness Instruction/Exercise Science Internship 2 units; offered every quarter (Minimum 75 contact hours, taken upon completion of all courses or concurrent with the elective courses. Choice of commercial, corporate, or preventive/wellness. Refer enrollment instructions following course descriptions.) Prerequisite: Completion of all required courses and current CPR/AED/First Aid certification. The internship offers students the opportunity for growth and development of relevant skills in the fitness field. It encompasses the pertinent aspects of fitness testing, programming and training, wellness and health education, and management and administration of health clubs and wellness facilities. Three tracks are offered: commercial, corporate, and preventive/wellness. Fee: $275. Internships are by application only. Students have the option of either locating their own preferred internship site or working with our Internship Coordinator, Suzanne Meredith, as needed. Internship Enrollment Instructions Intensive and Extended students follow the same steps for enrolling in the internship. When you are close to completing the coursework (elective courses accepted ‐ they may be taken concurrently with internship participation if not taken previously), you should email us at [email protected] to receive the Internship Application. When your returned application is received, you will be added to the internship list and given a section ID number that corresponds to the type of internship you have selected. After you enroll using this specific section ID, your application will be reviewed by the internship coordinator who will contact you directly to discuss the requirements. You are responsible for securing an internship site, but the internship coordinator will provide you with a list of potential sites, if you need it. If you decide on a different type of internship (e.g. commercial instead of corporate) than the one you specified as your first choice on the application, contact the program administrator to request that your internship enrollment be switched to the correct type. Internship Enrollment Instructions – Intensive Format Students Begin the program in any quarter; see the course matrix for which courses to enroll in. ♦ Upon completion of the physiology and anatomy/kinesiology courses, enroll in the certificate program by paying the non‐refundable certificate fee. ♦ Continue enrolling in the courses offered each quarter with the goal to complete the coursework in four quarters. ♦ After you have completed the physiology, anatomy/kinesiology, and nutrition courses, as well as two additional courses, contact the program administrator to be added to the list of intensive students and to receive your discount code, which entitles you to a 20% discount on your ACE personal fitness trainer or group fitness trainer manual, other materials you choose to purchase from ACE, and the ACE exam. ♦ When you have completed all the coursework, contact the program administrator again, who will • confirm your course completion within four quarters • provide you with an internship application • explain the internship enrollment process
