Taking Photos or Recordings in Programs
Educators are reminded when using the programs offered by the OEYC:
Brant that not all visitors wish to have their (or their children’s) photo taken.
To protect the privacy of all visitors:
 before taking a picture ask a staff member for permission AND
 you must receive permission from individuals that will appear
clearly recognizable in the picture
 if the photographed individuals are under 18 years, the photographer
should receive permission from the parent or guardian
 get consent before such photos are posted to social media websites.

When fees are associated with a workshop, you are required to register in
person or by mail and payment must be received prior to completing your
registration. Programs with approved billing can register by phone or
email. If there is no fee associated with a workshop, you can register in
person, by phone at 519-759-3833 or email [email protected].
REMINDER - include your name, phone number, address and
organization information when emailing your registration.
Note: email is not accepted on the first day of registration. We cannot
accept fax or voice mail registrations. If the workshop is full, we will put
you on a cancellation list and refer to the list if space becomes available.
Please note the registration deadlines listed for each workshop.
Accessibility Standards for Customer Service - Community Living Brant
recognizes that some people rely on support persons for assistance while
accessing services. Fees associated for services within this brochure are
waived for the support person if accompanying people on the premises.
Cancellation Policy
 If the minimum number of participants is not reached the workshop
will be cancelled. If it is a paid workshop, participants will receive a
gift certificate towards another workshop or a full refund.
 A participant may cancel their registration 14 days prior to the date of
the workshop and can receive a gift certificate towards another
workshop or a full refund (up to 3 weeks to process a full refund).
After this time, no reimbursements will be given.
 At any time, participants may transfer their registration to another
person not already registered (member/non-member fees will apply).
Equipment Room
To comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and
Industrial Regulations, children under the age of 12 years are not
permitted to enter the equipment room. Staff must administer these rules.
We ask that you make alternate child care arrangements prior to coming to
work in the equipment room. Children can’t be left unattended.
Note: Staff cannot die press, laminate, or develop materials for you in the
Equipment Room.

Brant Learn ECE - Online Learning
Capacity Building in Brant
As a result of funding through the Modernization of Child Care in Brant,
professionals working in licensed child care are able to benefit from free
professional development.
If you work within a licensed child care centre or for a licensed home child
care agency in Brant (must be part of the City of Brantford Child Care
System), you may be eligible for free First Aid Training, free Professional
Development and NOW… free online training. Ask your child care
supervisor/administrator for more information.
The City of Brantford Child Care Services has partnered with Lansdowne
Children’s Centre and the Ontario Early Years Centre: Brant to provide local
training opportunities.

ADD/ADHD Movie and Popcorn Session
Presented by Lansdowne Children’s Centre & OEYC: Brant Staff
Monday, July 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
No Cost
We will watch a short movie and look at the issues facing families and
educators of children who have an identified Attention Deficit
(Hyperactivity) Disorder. Strategies to assist with behavioural concerns in
home and at school will be discussed as well as supports to assist you in
your role. This workshop is open to parents and educators.
Breaking Down the 4 Foundations of How Does Learning Happen?

Wednesdays, June 3 & 17 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
No Cost
Week One: We will explore and discuss the 4 foundations from the
Education document, How Does Learning Happen? (Belonging, Well
Being, Engagement and Expression).
Week Two: The Next Step in Documentation - Pedagogical
documentation is more than recording events. It is learning about how
children think and learn, becoming a co-learner and capturing broader
aspects of experiences for reflection. We will discuss goal setting,
expectations and questions for reflections.

Helping Children Learn

Wednesdays, July 15 & 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
No Cost
Parents and Early Childhood Educators play an important role in a child’s
early learning. This workshop, delivered over two evenings, is based on
the Early Learning Canada Program. It is filled with ideas, strategies, and
activities to use with children in order to develop their lifelong learning
skills. This workshop is open to parents and educators.

Wednesday, June 24 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
No Cost
It can be really hectic at work and there is never enough time to debrief.
Even though you often feel alone with behaviour challenges, chances are
there are others going through the same issues. Join fellow educators and
gain a new perspective as we reflect on those challenges and what we
might do to change the outcome.

St. John Emergency First Aid
Presented by OEYC: Brant Trained St. John Ambulance Facilitator
Saturday, May 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $75 or $65 for full membership holders
(Covers the cost of materials, lunch and snacks)
Emergency First Aid covers the basics of first aid and includes level C
CPR and AED training. Upon successful completion of this course,
participants will receive a provincially recognized certificate.
Register by Thursday, May 14.
*Standard First Aid is a more in-depth course and is
recommended for workplaces with more than six
employees. If you would like Standard First Aid,
please indicate your interest to the instructor. When
there is enough interest we will offer a course that will
upgrade Emergency First Aid to Standard First Aid.

Lansdowne Children’s Centre. See page 7 for details.

What are appropriate developmental norms? How do new skills build on
earlier skills? Come out to this interactive workshop and explore
developmental norms for infants, toddlers and preschoolers in the domains
of communication, social/emotional, self-help, fine motor, gross motor and
cognition. Let’s also take a look at how societal expectations have changed
developmental expectations.

There’s Always a Reason for the Behaviour
Presented by Lansdowne Children’s Centre
Physiotherapy and Early Integration Program
Wednesday, October 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for Professionals
This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of
behaviour as it relates to sensory processing. Through lecture and
situational discussions, participants will learn ways to detect and assist
children with regulation of their state of being. This understanding will
assist participants with their problem solving abilities for addressing
behaviours’ in the moment. Strategies will be specific to childcare and
classroom settings based upon active analysis of identified behavioural
concerns.
The Anxious Child (ages 3+)
Presented by Lansdowne Children’s Centre Early Integration Program
Wed., November 11 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. for Parents and Professionals
Anxiety is the most commonly diagnosed mental health problem in
children and adolescents, affecting about 12% of school-going youngsters.
Many anxious children experience serious problems at home, in school,
and with peers.
What does anxiety look like and why do some children have it. Learn the
signs to look for in children, others & yourself. Also in this skill based
workshop, you will learn proven strategies to help children push through
anxiety, worry, fears and phobias so that they can move forward, learn and
enjoy life.

Make and Take Workshops
What is a Make and Take Workshop?
Make and Take Workshops are workshops designed to provide information
on a focused topic with the opportunity to “make and take” materials back
to the classroom. Professionals who make materials to use are much more
likely to implement the strategies in their programs. The Make and Takes
provided by the OEYC are developed with the ELECT document as a basis
for the content and related materials. Professionals are encouraged to keep
these items close at hand to implement as children demonstrate an interest
in a particular focus area.
Get a Book, Make a Prop Make and Take (Part 2)
Presented by OEYC: Brant Early Literacy Specialist
Saturday, August 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Cost: $20 or $15 for full membership holders
Here comes another one… “Get a Book, Make a Prop!” Join us for a
morning based on the book “If You Take a Mouse to School”. You’ll
leave with your own copy of the book and lots of activities and props that
you can use in your classroom right away. Watch for another “Get a Book,
