Professional Experience
2014 to Present, Associate Professor of Science Education, University of Texas at El Paso.
Department of Teacher Education, El Paso, Texas. Current duties include conducting science
education research, writing, publishing and presenting at conferences; teaching two science or
environmental education courses a semester (Undergraduate and/or Graduate); performing
activities with Professional Development Schools that occur in the El Paso region public
schools; advising undergraduate and graduate students; managing graduate research assistants;
grant proposal writing and submitting; serving on grants; managing grants; serving on
department, college, university and community committees; and performing department, college,
university, community and national/international science and environmental education service.
2010 to Present, Director of the Living Arthropod and Environmental Education Laboratory,
University of Texas at El Paso. El Paso, Texas. Dr. Ron Wagler is the founder, developer,
caretaker and director of the Living Arthropod and Environmental Education Laboratory. His
laboratory is on The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) campus. The laboratory houses
different species of living arthropods, laboratory equipment and educational equipment.
Examples include tarantulas, centipedes and scorpions. The living arthropods are all captive bred
as to not remove further species from their natural ecosystems. The laboratory performs research
addressing human-arthropod relationships, arthropod education, environmental education and
living arthropod curriculum development. Dr. Wagler, Dr. Wagler’s UTEP students, public
school teachers and public educators also use the laboratory for the following activities:
development of new captive breeding arthropod techniques; arthropod and environmental
education presentations to schools, zoos, museums, science centers, universities and the
community; public display of arthropods; developing new innovative arthropod education
activities and many other fun science and environmental education activities. The Living
Arthropod and Environmental Education Laboratory is unique because very few (in any)
laboratories perform this type of research or these types of activities.
2008 to 2014, Assistant Professor of Science Education, University of Texas at El Paso.
Department of Teacher Education, El Paso, Texas. Duties included conducting science education
research, writing, publishing and presenting at conferences; teaching three science or
