Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church

“Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will act. .”
(Psalm 37:5)
That takes a lot of courage, doesn’t it?
Some might call that blind faith. The writer of Hebrews actually describes it
that way: “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not
seen.” (11:1). When our belief has that conviction to it, we are then able to commit,
which involves action. It is seldom the case that we just sit around and wait. Take addiction, for example. It is commonly known that recovery is not possible unless the
addict WANTS to get better, AND there is a spiritual component attached. It takes a
lot of courage to overcome.
The church catholic will need to summon up tremendous courage and commitment as it faces threats from society and culture. We must trust that we are still
Jesus’ empowered disciples, given his authority to bless, love and serve all. We must
act now, and “get the word out” that we offer the means of grace to a fallen, spiritually starving world. We can no longer afford to sit around and wait for people to come
to us. Yes, it takes courage to move out, to meet people where they are in the messiness of life. When we serve meals at Interfaith Kitchen, bring clothes and Christmas
presents to the Spring Hill Community Center, and bag up hygiene items for “God’s
Work, Our Hands”, we represent Christ crucified and risen. This will be the key to
being faithful in doing what God has called us to do.
Wouldn’t it be nice to keep track of how many lives we have touched in these
ways, and others? It would be a more positive “scorecard”, I’m sure, than attendance
or offering counts! Summertime can be an opportunity to explore the wonders of
what God is up to around us. He is always ready and waiting for us to commit and
trust, so that He can act. We have a relationship with our Lord of loving response.
We respond with joy and thanksgiving to what He has already blessed us with. He
responds by blessing our efforts even further as people have faith rekindled or born
anew.
We cannot see or know with total

Thanks to all who served in April!
Great teamwork – thanks be to God!
On Tuesday, May 12th, we served 70 meals, and 26 carryouts to the hungry. Big thanks go to the following for preparing and serving: Ian Harris, Richard Harris, Rhonda
Loughridge, Kinley Loughridge, Susan Monti, Ed Rosenberg,
Mary Rosenberg, Don Gooden, Pam Swanto, Judy Swiatosz,
and Debbie Wuertz.
We serve on the second Tuesday of each month. This is a
great opportunity for a group, club, or family to serve the
community. There is no financial commitment necessary;
simply a gift of time and service. The entrees for these meals
are provided, but salads, side dishes, and desserts are always appreciated.
We need a new Coordinator for this ministry. It isn’t
hard. It just takes organization and contacting helpers
and servers. Please lift this need up in prayer. Thank
you!

ONE WORSHIP SERVICE
In case you were wondering… Until September
6th we will have one blended Worship Service
on Sundays at 9:30.
Please pass the word!
We rejoice with Roy A. Erickson, III and Amy
Erickson at the birth of their son, Nolan Robert, born May 20th, weighing 8 lbs., 9 oz., in
Virginia. This makes the seventh grandchild
for Roy and Ruth, and great-grandchild for Alfred and Cornelia Policke!
Sign up to be a worship assistant! Call the church
office for details, or look for the sign-up sheet in the
Fellowship Hall. Be part of the worship service as a
lector, Communion assistant, acolyte, or usher!
The Music Ministry would like to express
heartfelt gratitude to the congregation for their
generosity! Thanks to you and your gift of $500,
we are more than ever able to give the gift of music to those that are so eager to receive it.
We invite you to join us in worship and fellowship so we can all share the blessing of music.
You all have made that possible. Thank You!
The Altar Guild prepares the sanctuary for worship services. Members
are responsible for the care and cleaning of
the altar paraments, and are very knowledgeable
in the aspects of the liturgy and Church seasons. There is no
experience necessary, and training will be provided. If you
would like to help serve the congregation by filling this vital
role, please call the church office at (386)734-2791, or see Ruth
Erickson
Apartment #33 at the Lutheran Retirement Center is still busy every Tuesday with putting together
quilts for Lutheran World Relief, we have two sewing machines so most of us sit at a machine and sew
pieces of fabric together some of the time. We also edge every quilt with zig-zag stitches. We are always
happy to have an extra pair of hands and also to have visitors view our efforts. Dolores Schmid has
done enormous amounts of cutting for us and has donated lots of material. Look on the quilt stand in
the back of the church to see some of her donations. Also on the rack is a quilt made from fabric that
Marianne Stewart put together for us. Debby Boyer has been very busy at home sewing small pieces of
fabric together to make large and small quilts. If you have fabric that you do not think that you will
ever use, please consider donating it to the quilt room. We will welcome it. Thank you to all of you
who have given us material to make quilts. We are hoping to ship 100 quilts again in 2016. You can be
a part of our efforts.

SUNDAY, JUNE 7TH
After our ONE WORSHIP SERVICE AT 9:30, we invite everyone outside to
enjoy food, fun and fellowship! This is an excellent opportunity to invite
someone!
If you have a creative idea for how to divide who brings what
(vegetables/sides, drinks, desserts) rather than alphabetically by last name –
that’s getting dull! – let the church office, a Council member, or Pastor Art
know.
We will also need strong helpers to set up tables and chairs.
Come one, come all to our annual church picnic!
Intercessory prayer is one of the Christian’s most powerful tools. By lifting up those in need, we bring them to the
Lord for His healing hand, strength and comfort.
We pray for those who are chronically ill, that God would be their daily companion and strength:
Laura Coe, Nina Eriksen, Linda Feiler, Lloyd Zeller, Kerry Sholtis, Lance Borows, Faith Eriksen
For those who are fighting cancer, that they will know they are not alone in the battle:
Ray Bebee, Kitty Jones, Janet Persell, Peter Vrionides, Gary Cherwin, Curt Doroban, Bob Jordan, Alfred Mueller, Isabelle Lee Pritchett, Emily Snyder, Suzie Farris, Judy, Cathy, Mark Creel
We rejoice with those who are recovering form injury, illness, or surgery:
Nina Eriksen, Gary DiFiore Ridolph, Christopher Menza
For those who are shut in, that they will feel the Lord’s constant presence:
Lucille Eaton (FLHC), Jerry Kimmel, Irma Milward (FLHC), Doris Paskewitz (Cloisters), Dick Woodring (FLHC),
Helen Long (FLHC), Millie Glover
For those in mourning, that God Will comfort them:
The family of Irma Swann
We pray for those whose needs are known only to the Lord:
Karin Goranson, Cathy Buchner, Marilyn Snow, Heather Kinney, Preston Kinney, Carolyn Stevens, Dick Woodring,
Dorothy Caldwell, Scarlet Valdez
We pray for the special concerns of our neighbors, our community, our nation and our world:
Our men and women in the military, Habitat for Humanity, All people in war-torn nations, Storm victims, Rain for
areas that need it, For our local, state and national leaders, for those in the grip of addiction to drugs and alcohol and
for their families.
