Abandoned long ago and nearly forgotten, the H/O-2000 is discovered
by the kids in our story while attending the annual VBS program at
Midway Community Church. A series of time-traveling escapades
ensue, taking our intrepid gang of time-jumpers on a wild ride,
immersing them in strange times and cultures ... including the totally
tubular 1980s, the roaring ‘20s, the Wild, Wild West, and even the
Garden of Gethsemane ... all leading to a point of discovery about the
importance of the Cross and the message of the Gospel.

20, at 6:15pm in the sanctuary! Our
children are going to lead us on a
musical adventure through time. I
can’t wait to see these kids dressed
up from my days in the 70’s and
80’s. And don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll
catch others of us in the 50’s and
60’s. The main time; however, will be
when their journey leads us Back to
the Cross. See you there!
Austin Hamlett, son of Darrell and
Sheri Hamlett, is a senior at Gallatin
High School where he has excelled in
scholarship and activities. In addition
to his schedule at Gallatin High, he
also completed 12 hours of Dual
Enrollment courses which are the
equivalent of college credit. He was
in Advanced Placement classes and
became a member of the National

Honor Society. He was involved in
many student activities, but his greatest involvement was in Health
Occupation Students of America (HOSA) where he has been president
in his senior year.
Steven Watson Brown, Jr., son of Steve and Tonya
Brown, is one of the two recipients of this new scholarship
given in memory of Paula Troutt. Steven is a senior at
Gallatin High School and has been a leader academically,
musically, and socially throughout his high school years.
He has served as class representative, Vice President,
and President, as well as a member of the National
Honor Society. He has been involved in Mid-State and
All-State Chorus all four years, while also performing as
a vocalist, pianist, arranger, and director of many high
school musical productions. This year, as part of a dual
enrollment program at Volunteer State Community
College’s School of Music (the only high school student
to be selected as a member), he joined the Commercial
Music Ensemble and Showstoppers choir.
A Funny
A pastor was the guest preacher at a church when they received
the Lord’s Supper. After the congregation had taken the bread and
the cup, they all walked outside on the gravel lot and sang a hymn.
Then they filed back in for the remainder of the worship service.
Afterwards, the curious pastor asked a deacon about it. “Scripture
says,” the deacon answered, “when they had finished they went
outside and sang.” (Matthew 26:30).
A Reality
It is pretty amazing when you think about it. Jesus went singing
from the Table straight into the breathtaking conflict – both
internal and from his betrayers – of Gethsemane. I wonder if we’re
not called to do the same. Are we not called to follow joyfully and
with thanksgiving even when He leads us into difficulty?
An Opportunity
This Sunday you’ll have the gift of receiving the Lord’s Supper and
reflecting on your life. Many of us seek to avoid conflict, but it is an
inescapable reality (often daily) for all on earth. As you prepare to
receive communion this week, be at one with Him who gives you
courage, hope, peace, and strength for the daily struggle.
Jesus Gives Power,
Austin has had several experiences with humanitarian service during
his high school years. He went on a World Changer’s mission trip with
the church, and through Student Council, he helped organize and
collect food items to be used in the Sumner County Food Bank. In
HOSA, he made biannual trips to Morningside community to visit and
carry gifts to its patrons. As he said, “Giving back to the community
is one of the most rewarding and valuable uses of my time that
I have experienced in high school, and I have goals to increase my
involvement as time goes on.
Austin has been accepted into Union University’s prestigious nursing
program where he hopes to complete course work leading to his
becoming a cardiac perfusionist working at a major hospital. He
said, “I want to make use of the skills that I have been blessed with.
No matter if my career plans change, I still have faith that I will be a
humanitarian in whatever direction God will lead me.”
While in high school, Austin has worked at Chick-fil-a on Belvedere
Drive as a cook.
Vacation Bible School
All VBS Volunteers! Two days have been scheduled to prepare
for Jesus Is My Hero VBS, Saturday, May 16,1-3pm (childcare provided);
Sunday, June 7, 2-5pm (childcare provided). Even if you are unable to
help with VBS June 8-12, your help is needed to get ready for the big
week! There’s plenty to do as we prep for the 400 plus kids and adults
that will be in attendance! Join us as we gear up for an amazing week!
Don’t forget ... we still need clean tin cans (all sizes), two-liter bottles,
glass jars, and empty water bottles for Vacation Bible School supplies.
Collection bins are located at the first floor elevators. Thank you in
advance for your help!

Steven has also been a pianist and worship leader for various activities at Gallatin First
Baptist, Long Hollow Baptist, and Freedom Church, and is presently serving at Sumner
Christian Fellowship as pianist and song leader. He has been accepted at Belmont
University as a commercial piano composition major in the fall of 2015.
Sarah Grace Leaver, daughter of Amy and Troy Leaver,
is also a recipient of this scholarship and will graduate in
May from the HomeLife Academy with a 4.0 GPA. She is a
violinist who has performed with the Williamson County
Youth Orchestra during all her high school years, and
she is currently part of the Gallatin First Baptist Church
orchestra. Sarah’s goal is to study music education, with
an emphasis on music performance, so she can teach
and conduct on a middle or high school level.
Sarah has been an active church volunteer in addition
to her violin studies and part-time jobs. She hopes to

use her talents and her love of music in developing
students’ abilities and knowledge, and to be open to any
opportunity that God gives her to worship and serve. Sarah will be attending Volunteer
State Community College in the fall.
