END OF YEAR: 10
There will be 1 exam paper at the end of the year (Mock Exam) of a total of 10 hours within lesson
time. This will form part of your controlled assessment but also give you an experience of the real 10
hour exam (two full days in your Art studio at the end of Year 11).

Strategies for preparation:




Experiment with a range of materials – including photographs, words, found imagery, sound,
video etc.
After experimentation refine your preferred working method – push the boundaries of what
you can achieve!
Evaluate all the way through your book – record your thoughts and comments about how your
ideas have developed and how your research informs your developing practice.
Make use of your research! How do your findings help develop your work as an Artist?
VLE Stretch & Challenge Activities:
Complete the following pieces of research: Artist investigation – development of research and a ‘What’s on?
Gallery search. These should be completed in your sketchbook. (Theme dependent on teacher set project.)
Week beginning 27th April: What’s on? Gallery research. Make a list of current Gallery exhibitions & document
your research. Contrast & compare two exhibitions of your choice from the selection you have found. Produce
a double page review including images and text of a chosen exhibition and the artist’s work featured that has
inspired you.
Week beginning 4th May: Create an artist research page on an artist selected from the ‘What’s on?’ research.
Include evaluative opinion about what the Art work is about? How it could inspire your own Art work
development?
Week beginning 11th May: Development of a drawing / painting / collage showing how your understanding has
become knowledge and evaluate the task.

Business Studies
END OF YEAR: 10
There will be 2 exam papers for GCSE Business Studies that you will sit in Year 11 with a mock exam in
Year 10. This mock exam is your focus and will be based on Unit 1 only.
Business Studies GCSE: Unit 1 ‘Setting up a Business’ will be assessed by an examination of 1 hour in
length. This is worth 40% of the final G.C.S. E. grade. Unit 2 ‘Growing a Business’ will also be assessed
by an examination of 1 hour in length. This is worth 35% of the final G.C.S.E. grade.

Strategies for revising:






Complete a set of Flash Cards for 2 chapters of your choice from Unit 1– Deadline 11th May
2015
Complete the Unit 1 2014 paper on First Class in the folder ‘Exam Papers and Mark Schemes’
on your own - using a different coloured pen and the mark scheme to highlight the key
elements that the examiner was looking for. Now do the paper again, but this time with the aid
of the mark scheme. Create that perfect answer for each question.
Ask your parent/guardian to interview you about a topic. Make sure they ask loads of probing
questions.
Walk around your home and link facts to particular things within a room. This is a great away to
associate elements of the course with things you see every day.
Make a word board with all the key words you need to learn written on separate sticky notes.
Then keep them somewhere you will see them often.
Make a set of Q&A cards with a revision buddy and then play ‘swap the card’ exchanging cards
when one of you gets the right answer.

There will be 1 exam paper: The written paper is worth 50% of the final mark. It consists of 6-8
compulsory questions of short answer, structured and free response questions. Some questions may
include stimulus material such as pictures or charts.

Week beginning 27th April: -Write an article for a parents’ magazine explaining what to expect at ante natal
visits including information about the routine and non-routine tests, screening and diagnostic tests.
Week beginning 4th May - Explain all the arguments for and against breast and bottle feeding and write a
persuasive article to encourage mothers to consider breast feeding.
Week beginning 11th May - Produce an information leaflet for parents which provides advice on ensuring the
home and garden is safe for a child. Provide advice about what should be in a First Aid Box and how minor
injuries should be treated.

END OF YEAR: 10
There will be one exam: This will be a combination of a practical examination and a multiple choice
examination on the unit of study being undertaken at the time of the examination. Students will be
provided with all equipment. The exam forms 1/6 of the City and Guilds certificate.




Drama
END OF YEAR: 10
Unit 2 – Exploring Play Texts (20% of total GCSE)
The following three tasks make up the assessment for unit 2:
Practical Controlled Assessment (15% of total GCSE)
On 19th May, you will take part in a six-hour practical controlled assessment based on the play
Woyzeck, by Georg Buchner. The exam is completely practical, using drama activities to test your
knowledge and understanding of the: plot, style, characters, themes and issues in the play.
Written Controlled Assessment Task One, Documentary Evidence (5% of total GCSE)
You will be required to write a 1000 word essay at school about what you and others demonstrated
about the play during the practical examination.
Independent study to prepare for the exam:
Read the play Woyzeck.
• Revise Explorative Strategies.
• Research past productions of Woyzeck by
attending screenings of two different theatre
productions of after school.
• Annotation of ideas of how to stage key scenes
from the play.
• Practice Documentary Evidence essays on
activities completed in class.

time that the play was written.
• Revision of key drama vocabulary.

There will be 2 exam papers for GCSE Economics in year 11, but for your year
10 mock exam you will be sitting the Unit 11: Personal Economics paper.
The Economics GCSE consists of an examination entitled Personal Economics. This is a written paper
(1¼ hours) and represents 50% of the final grade.
In Year 11 students will also sit a written paper entitled Investigating Economic Issues (1¼ hours) also
representing 50% of the final grade.

END OF YEAR: 10
There will be 1 exam paper for English Literature.
Unit 2: Poetry – this is worth 35% of the final English Literature GCSE grade. This exam is 1 hour and 15
minutes long and is divided into 2 sections.
Section A – students will have been taught a collection of poetry and will be expected to answer one
question in detail and compare two poems.
Section B – students will be given an ‘unseen’ poem which is a poem you have never studied before.
Students will be expected to analyse the poem and answer one question in detail.







Complete a set of cue cards on each poem that is studied. For each poem there should be a
cue card on writer’s perspective, structure, form and language – Deadline 1st June 2015
Have your parent/guardian test you on each poem
For a visual aid, for each poem, produce a collage on images that best suit the poem
Create a word board in your room with all the techniques you need to learn on separate sticky
notes.
Complete past papers that are available on First Class in the folder ‘Exam Papers and Mark
schemes’ under GCSE English on your own.
Print off the mark scheme and with a different coloured pen, highlight the key elements/words
that examiner is looking for. Use the highlighted words/elements as a checklist to see whether


you included this in your practice paper. If not, include your corrections.
Create your own exam questions with a revision buddy and plan the answer.
Find and print off any poem that you have never studied before and annotate the text under
timed conditions.
Week beginning 4th May - Complete background research on one of the poets you have studied and see if what
you have found can be applied to the poem. Find literary criticism on one or more of the poets/poems in your
poetry cluster. Use this in your responses. Upload your analysis onto VLE.
Week beginning 11th May - Find another of the writer’s poems, annotate and write an essay on the
similarities/differences on the poem you have found with the one you have studied in class. Once your essay is
complete, upload your work onto class.
Week beginning 18th May - Find and print off another poem and devise your own essay question and complete
within 30 minutes. This would be a good revision activity for the rest of the class, so upload your question onto
VLE. Select any poem from a cluster in the Anthology that you are not studying and use this to develop your
skills of analysis for ‘Unseen Poetry’.

Week beginning 27th April - Complete a revision factsheet on the sources and functions of all of the main
nutrients – macro and micro. This should be suitable to give to a Year 7 student learning about Nutrition.
Week beginning 4th May - Complete a revision mind map on Quality Control and Sensory Analysis. This should
be colourful and include lots of key words. Write a newspaper article persuading readers to use sustainable
ingredients when making their food choices. Ask your teacher for the template of what you might include on
this.
Week beginning 11th May - Produce a range of cue cards on all of the topics that we have studied. Cue cards
and envelopes to store them in will be provided.

Week beginning 30th March: - Design a leaflet for your travel agency promoting your local area. Include detailed
description of the location, what there is to do day & night, transport, places to go/visit, history of the area etc.
Week beginning 20th April: - Write a letter to a French friend inviting him/her to go to a festival with you. Say
where you went last year, what you thought of it and why you’ve chosen this festival this year; say how you are
going to travel, what you need to take with you, what you will be doing etc.
Week beginning 27th April: - Prepare a PPT quiz on grammar issues. Make sure that you include past, present,
future imperfect and conditional (regular & irregular verbs) as well as pronouns, adjectives, expressing detailed
opinions and time markers.

Geography
END OF YEAR: Year 10
Your end of year Geography exam will be given week commencing 1st June.
The exam will be based on the topic of ‘Water on the Land’ and ‘Ice on Land’
and is in the style of real exam paper questions.


The end of year exam concerns the content learned throughout the year for the study in depth unit
Germany 1919-39, and the content learnt so far for the source paper unit on Britain and the Second
World War.
Look at the relevant pages textbooks to obtain content knowledge. The textbooks also contain a
breakdown of the examination papers you will face and contain worked and unworked examples of
each question in the exam paper.
Hitler in Power (1933-1939), there will be a high earning essay question on the topic.
Depression Britain, there will be a source based question on the topic.
Britain at War, there will be another source based question on this topic.
Strategies for success:



Make sure your notes are clear, connected to headings in your exercise book and will be
suitably detailed for efficient revision in Year 11.
Make sure you focus upon the key parts of the questions in the exam paper. Break them down
so that you understand fully what is required.
Source based questions in the sources exam have exact requirements, which are always the
same; you must learn how to approach each type of question. The focus of your answer should
concern the evidence that the source contains. Use your own knowledge from the textbook in
all bar the first question. This is important, marks are lost otherwise.
The VLE contains revision information and stretch and challenge exercises to be carried out weekly
prior to the end of the year test.

There will be one exam paper as part of the end of year exam. This will consist of 3 questions on the
topic of Action Adventure, where pupils have to carry out a textual analysis of an unseen extract. This
is one section of the final exam that pupils will take in the December of 2015 as part of their final GCSE
exam practice. The length of the exam will be 1 hour and 15 minutes. Students then study the topic of
Situation Comedy (Section B) and complete a second mock exam, which lasts 45 minutes answering
two questions in March 2016.

Develop a PowerPoint presentation consisting of information about the generic conventions of
the Action Adventure genre – apply these to examples of clips and extracts we have studied
during lessons.

language and terminology that you would expect to see in an Action Adventure film. Also

There will be 3 exam papers each 1 hour long. Unit 1 Biology, Unit 1 Chemistry and Unit 1 Physics.
Exams will be tiered and your teacher will tell you if you will be sitting Higher or Foundation.
You should have a pen, pencil, rubber, ruler and protractor. Calculators are essential and you must
bring your own. Spare equipment will not be available on the day.

Give equal time to Biology, Chemistry and Physics- not just your favourite.
Remember 50% of Unit 1 was covered in year 9. Go through year 9 exercise books.
Use revision checklists on First Class.
Produce a set of revision notes that cover everything from year 9 & 10. Use your revision guide or text
book to help.
Complete the white book as you revise to test yourself.
Watch videos from mygcse.com (links on checklists).
Visit Doddle. Use power points. Ask your teacher to assign you mini quizzes.
Visit BBC bitesize and do revision tests.
When you are confident download past papers from VLE and complete in timed conditions.
Use examiners mark schemes to green pen your work.
There will be 3 activities posted on the student VLE- KS4 folder- Revision Advice and extra resources- Year 10
revision tasks. You must complete in the 3 weeks leading up to the exam. Once completed, they must be
printed off and handed to your class teacher.
Week beginning 27th April: Print out Biology checklist & self assess. Print out Biology revision PowerPoint slides
and fill in. Hand in your work to your teacher.
Week beginning 4th of May: Print out Chemistry checklist & self assess. Print out Chemistry revision PowerPoint
slides and fill in. Hand in your work to your teacher.
Week beginning 11th of May: Print out Physics checklist & self assess. Print out Physics revision PowerPoint
slides and fill in. Hand in your work to your teacher.

END OF YEAR: Year 10
There will be two exam papers: Listening and Reading.
Plus: The first “Writing Controlled Assessment” task completed on “el tiempo libre” ”(Free
time/holidays).





Free time at home. (Preterite tense of
regular verbs).
Free time and going out. (Irregular
preterits: ir-ser. Use of time expressions).
Talking about money and shopping. (Use
of direct object pronouns. Colloquial
expressions).
Discussing views on fashion and trends.
(Use of “Demonstrative pronouns”: éste,
ése, aquel).
Refer to the three different folders called:
“Crossing the D/C – B/A – A/A* boundary”
to help you develop strategies to improve.

Make up own “cue cards”, “mind maps” and “notes” use them to record key vocabulary and
grammar points. You may include pictures, use colour pencils and highlighting colours.
You may make “Summary tables or grids” to put together verbs conjugation.
Work with a partner and organize a “team –teaching” system, to teach each other. Research a
topic that you have studied and then teach it to someone else.
Go over pages 72-73-86-87 to revise the main vocabulary related to both topics. If you find it
difficult to memorise vocabulary you could: “read/learn, cover, write and compare”.
Use the internet (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk/schools/bitesize) and interactive websites. Also use the
resources on the VLE.
Make notes on POST-ITs to remind yourself of rules/ structures/verb endings etc and stick them
around your room.
Record yourself on your mobile phone or using software such as Audacity. You can then listen
to yourself on your MP3 player or IPOD. This is especially useful for oral exams and for words
that you find difficult to memorise.

Week beginning 27th April: Design a leaflet for your travel agency include: type of holidays available,
destinations and what activities can be done there, what destination you would recommend and why and what
is important when choosing a type of holiday.
Week beginning 4th May: Write a letter to your pen friend telling him/her about your last holidays and why you
would recommend/or not the place and where you will go next time.
Week beginning 11th May: Prepare a quiz on grammar issues, include past, present, future, conditional of
regular and irregular verbs as well as pronouns, adjectives, expressing opinions and time markers.
