The Ag Awards Banquet was well attended
and well received. Parents, students, school
staff, district staff, and families enjoyed two
separate PowerPoint slide shows of the Ag
program
and
the
seniors. Ag students
received certificates and
special awards in the
form of plaques and
high recognition.
On Wednesday the first staff-student
dodgeball championship was played in the
gym at lunch. The game was hotly contested
as the Seawolves, made up of seniors,
battled the upstart Average Joe’s team,
made up of the tenacious and cunning staff
members. The Seawolves jumped out to an
early lead, knocking out three Average Joe’s
contestants. That left Stacia and Felicia to
battle 5 Seawolves. Eventually Stacia was up
against 4 Seawolves, putting up a valiant
fight before succumbing to the wolf pack
attack.
The outcome was really
inconsequential, with the real benefit
coming from the connectivity and
camaraderie that resulted from such
interaction
amongst staff
and students.
Just look at
the smiles and
joy in the
picture below.

Leaders in the entertainment industry from
television and film media gave a lecture to the
Video Productions
class. They spoke
about how things
have
changed
drastically in their
field of work since
they started back 4
decades
ago.
With the advent of
social
media
the
opportunities
have
increased
one
hundred fold and the
avenues
to
employment
are
multiple and varied.

Seniors Danny Quintero and Gerardo
Rodriguez powered the Flashes baseball
team to a 6-1 drubbing of rival Santa Paula
to capture at least a share of the
Frontier league title. The second game was
rained out on Thursday and is rescheduled
for Friday at 3:30 in Santa Paula.
The softball team locked up second place
in the Tri-valley league with a 10-6 win over
Carpinteria. In the victory, Marisa Felix
continued her torrid hitting with a two-run
home run and a grand slam. Cali Wyand
went 2-4 with a double
and 2 RBIs. Kayleigh
Thompson was 2-3 and
scored 3 runs for the
Lady Flashes who now
wait to hear who they
will draw in the CIF
playoffs next week.
Hannah Vasquez
represented Fillmore
high in the CIF
swimming prelims
earlier this week at Riverside in the 100
butterfly event. .Way to go, Hannah!
The volleyball team was eliminated from
CIF competition in straight set, 3-0, at
Mission Prep.
Finally, several members of the track team
are preparing for the CIF prelims to be held
at Carpinteria on Saturday. Justin Coert
remains the favorite to move on in the shot
put and the discus while the men's 4x100
relay hopes to gain a finals berth.

Prom was held at
the Sunset Hills
Country Club in
Thousand Oaks
on Saturday. The
place
was
packed
with
500+ students in
attendance. Everyone looked amazing in their
formal attire. It’s always so nice to see our
students in a different atmosphere. We would
like to thank the staff that helped chaperone:
Trina Tafoya, Kim Tafoya, Cinda Francis, Jeremy
MacMahon, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs.
Cota, Mr. and Mrs. Lopez, Mrs. Ashim, Mr. Ito,
Mrs. Dabbs, Ms. Morielli, Deputy Vazquez and
his cadets and myself. I am pretty sure that the
students kept the staff busy refilling the water
and juice containers. This week we are preparing
for the ASB convention that will be held on
Friday, May 15, 2015.
