Data Retrieval Tool/Tax Return Transcript Instructions
Please Note: All information must EXACTLY match the most recent records on file with the
IRS when completing your request. Even a small difference, such as the use of "Street" or "St"
may result in an unsuccessful request.
1. IRS Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA - RECOMMENDED
• This option links your IRS Tax information into your FAFSA.
• When completing the FAFSA application on FAFSA.GOV, visit the "Student and/or
Parent (if applicable) Financial Information" tab.
• If Eligible, enter the PIN, click "Link to IRS", review the Information and click
"Transfer my Information into the FAFSA" option.
• Sign and Submit your FAFSA afterwards.
2. Request Tax Return Transcript
Option 1: View Online (Instant)
• Visit the IRS website (www.irs.gov), under the Tools tab, click "Get Transcript of your
Tax Records".
• Follow the necessary steps to create an account, sign into your new account and
request the TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPT for the appropriate tax year.
• Print all the pages and submit it to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships alongside
your verification.
Option 2: Receive by Mail (estimated delivery 5-10 business days)
• Visit www.irs.gov, under the Tools tab, click "Get Transcript of your Tax Records".
• Click the Mail Option.
• Fill in your SSN, DOB, and Address.
• Select the option for "RETURN" transcript alongside the year needed.
• A confirmation will appear.
