The objective of the workshop is to show the wide range and flexibility of watercolor
medium and to guide all participants in developing loose and spontaneous techniques,
enhancing their own personal intuitive approach.
Images of Guest Artist work are examples of how techniques taught during the workshops have been

INTRODUCTION TO M E TA L C LAY: G O L D I E B R ON Z E
Instructor: Katherine Steinbring
Surface Design Studio
Have you wanted to try metal clay but were put off by the cost of silver? Then here
is your chance to play with this exciting medium for much less. You will mix clay from
a powdered state, learn to work with the putty-like material to create pieces that will
become solid metal when fired. In the second class, you will polish and add patina to
your fired metal. (Firing is a two-step process done by the instructor outside of class
time.) Each student should leave class with 3-5 finished pieces: charms, earrings, pendants, key rings, etc. No experience with metal clay needed. Class can be repeated.
NOTE: If you have an allergy to nickel, Goldie Bronze should not cause a problem for
you. It is a combination of copper and tin in an organic binder.
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION in Flameworking and Woodworking is available.
Please see page 31 for more details.
Materials fee includes metal clay and use of studio tools. Bring a lunch.

SUMMER 2015 CLASS SCHEDULE

C E RAMIC S
Instructor: Jay Walsh
Griffith Ceramics Studio
Want to dedicate some time to learning more about Raku? This is your chance. Bring
your bisqueware and we will spend the day exploring ways to glaze and fire your
work. We will fire raku, underglazes, horse hair, tin foil saggars and fuming. It is all your
choice of what you want to do.
This is a great opportunity for those who do not have access to their own raku
equipment or just want to learn more on how to actually fire and reduce properly
to achieve the results they are looking for. Join us for an up close and personal raku
experience.
Supplies: Bring a notebook, pencil, various brushes, 2 rolls heavy tin foil if you want to
explore that technique, horse hair and 6-8 bisqueware pieces
member: $80
non-member: $100
materials fee: $15

SCULPTURAL WO R K S I N C LAY
Instructor: CJ Niehaus
Griffith Ceramics Studio
A sculptural clay class involves the techniques of pinch, coil and slab to create three
dimensional artworks. We will discuss methods using the potters wheel and altering and combining forms as well. With the field of ceramics becoming more open to
alternative methods of finishing work, this class extends beyond glaze and underglaze
to include decorative finishes, flocking and cold finishes in the completion of your idea.
Work can be functional and/or non-functional.
Private instruction is available in many of our areas of study
providing one-on-one assistance. Sessions will focus on the
interests of the student, but will not exceed their ability level
(safety is our number one concern). Potential topics should
be discussed with the instructor. Cost does not include
material fees.
Please see the listing below of areas of instruction.

To reserve space in classes and workshops of your choice,
you are required to pay for all tuition and material fees in
full. The only exception is where material fees are TBD (to
be determined). Those material fees will be paid during the
class session. Only when we receive your payment in full,
will we enter you on the class roster. Please register for
classes at least 7 days prior to when that class meets. If you
withdraw from a class 8 days prior to the beginning of the
class, you will receive a refund minus a $10 cancellation fee.
If you withdraw from a class 7 days or less prior to the class,
you will not receive a refund. If a class is cancelled, you will
receive a full refund.
Guest Artist Workshops/Lectures:
Since Fine Line must commit to the workshops and lectures
well in advance, we must have special policies. You may pay
in full when you register. If you cancel more than 45 days
before the class, you will receive a refund minus a $50 cancellation fee. If it is less than 45 days before the workshop,
you will not receive a refund. Perhaps you can find someone
to take your place so your payment is not totally lost.
As a service to our students, and since we try to advertise
our workshops well in advance, we offer a non-refundable
deposit of $50 for each workshop. This assures you a place in
the workshop roster. However, you must pay the full amount
owed (less the $50 deposit) 45 days before the workshop
begins. If you cancel before you have paid the full amount of
the class, you forfeit the $50 deposit. If Fine Line must cancel a
workshop, your money will be refunded.

FINE LINE CREATIVE ARTS CENTER
Many times we’ve heard prospective students rue the fact
that classes they are interested in taking are scheduled on
days or at times that just do not fit into their busy schedules.
Well now, there’s an opportunity for you to address this
issue. Round up three or more of your friends interested
in the same class and present to Fine Line one or more
possible options (dates & times) for your class to take place.
When your friends agree upon the possible dates and times,
call Fine Line to inform us what you are interested in. We will
then contact the instructor to find out if any of your options
(dates, time, class) fit into his/her schedule. Please note that
we must have at least four (4) students in the class or classes
you are requesting to be scheduled.
All dates, times,
locations, and fees
will be determined
in consultation with
Fine Line staff,
faculty, and students.

Classes taught by Fine Line faculty:
Perhaps something we offered in the past is not being
offered at this time and you would be interested if we could
make arrangements with the instructor. That too could be
worked out in the same fashion as mentioned above.

VOLUNTEER OPP O RT U N I T I E S
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Fine Line. Without
their giving of time, energy and talent, Fine Line could not
easily offer the exciting and enriching classes and workshops
and events that nurture the creative spirit.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet new people, new
challenges, new opportunities, use your skills and share your
talents and experience with a wider community of creative
people. Interested in volunteering? We would love to hear
from you!
