The Presbyterian A Newsletter of the First Presbyterian Church 125 South Poplar Street, Bucyrus, OH 44820 May 2015 “Where everyone is welcome” John's Corner And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. (Acts 2:42 ESV) This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (John 15:12 ESV) One of the greatest delights in being part of the body of Christ is the opportunity to come together in fellowship which expresses our enjoyment and love of one another. Obviously, this reflects the love of God we receive in Christ and our desire to be in communion with him. The committee who has the blessing of organizing these gatherings is Congregational Life. Now perhaps the title sounds overtly formal and stiff – a Presbyterian tendency for sure - but in reality it's the party committee! Traditionally it has been chaired by someone on session. However, as the session has shrunk to accommodate the more rigorous requirements set by the EPC, we thought it might be best to make this an at-large committee made up from our most effusive and gregarious members! So here is a shout out to all of you who may not want the significant responsibility of being on session, but would love to nurture our church family's party time together. Whether pot lucks, bowling parties, the Birthday Dinner, BBQs at Lowe-Volk park, Rally Day, congregational breakfasts, and graduation celebrations, these are activities which bind us together as the tight-knit family of God that we are. A group of three people would provide mutual support and depth of bench to make this a blast! Plus, you don't have to stick with the usual suspects, you can come up with new events should you choose! Imagine, honoring and glorifying God by bringing folks together to have a great time! We need people to jump at this opportunity ASAP in order for our summer and fall activities to start rolling. First Presbyterian Church needs your talents and enthusiasm to whip up the fun factor. Should the Holy Spirit gobsmack you with an uncontrollable urge to make this happen, contact me (Pastor John) or our venerable Clerk of Session, Sam Eichhorn. Don't delay! Shake the tree with the two of us to make this happen by May 17th. Whew! I am plum wore out from using so many exclamation points... Can you get a cramp from that? Love and prayers, Pastor John P.S. Almost forgot! I'm interested in getting our kids involved with Bible Quizzing. It is a terrific program to root kids in the Word (competitively mind you) and build greater Christian fellowship. Thank You, Office Staff A Mother's Love There are times when only a mother's love Can understand our tears, Can soothe our disappoints And calm all of our fears. There are times when only a mother's love Can share the joy we feel When something we've dreamed about Quite suddenly is real. There are times when only a mother's faith Can help us on life's way And inspire in us the confidence We need from day to day. For a mother's heart and a mother's faith And a mother's steadfast love Were fashioned by the angels And sent from God above. --Author Unknown Summer Worship Schedule Beginning June 7 , worship service will begin at 9:30 AM.
