Marco Emilio Lavazza • Vice President & Director, Lavazza SpA, Italy
Mr. Lavazza also serves as a Member of the Advisory Board at DGPA SGR SpA and Innogest SGR
S.p.A. Today, Lavazza is one of the most important roasters in the world, a leader in Italy with a
48% share in value of the retail market. Lavazza is present with its distributors and subsidiaries in
over 90 countries around the world. With a turnover exceeding €1.2 billion in 2011, the company
operates worldwide in the Home and Away-from-Home segments.
Profile of conference speakers
Paul Clüver • Managing Director, De Rust Estate, South Africa
Mr. Clüver is a fourth generation member of the family owned and family run agricultural business
which has been in the family since 1896. Together with his family Mr. Clüver has taken De Rust
from being a leading apple producer to being one of South Africa’s top wine estates, stud breeder of
Hereford cattle while being rated as a leader in sustainable production and conservation.
Paras Chandaria • Director, Comcraft Group, Singapore
Mr. Chandaria is a fourth generation member of a family business with an interest in leading global
businesses which began from modest origins in East Africa almost a hundred years ago. As a part
of the management team of Comcraft, he plays a significant role in developing the groups’ existing
activities in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Mr. Chandaria is also involved in establishing new
ventures for the group including a new retail initiative and a unique edutainment concept.
Hertford King • Owner & CEO, International Group, UK
Mr. King is a second generation member of a highly diversified family business engaged in a
number of different industries around the world, founded in 1964. Mr. King has personally
managed projects, including construction and property development contracts, in 21 countries
establishing a useful network of business connections globally. Mr. King has also worked in all
of the group’s divisions, at board level for the past twenty years focusing on strategy, finance and
operational management. Mr. King has also been a trustee of three charities supporting blind
children and adults.
Hugo Peris • Board Member, Laboratorios SALVAT, Spain
Mr. Peris has a broad multinational experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having worked
in marketing, sales and business development positions in New Zealand, Australia, the USA and
China. Mr. Peris serves as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Laboratorios
SALVAT, a privately-held Spanish pharmaceutical company of which he is part of the 4th
generation. After spending four years with the Chinese start-up Luqa Pharmaceuticals, in 2014
Mr. Peris spun out an R&D asset from Laboratorios SALVAT to start Loop Therapeutics, a US
ophthalmic pharmaceutical company focused on developing first-in-class products to treat
corneal diseases.
Lamberto Frescobaldi • President, Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, Italy
Mr. Frescobaldi represents the thirtieth generation of this renowned Tuscan winegrowing family.
His lifework has been the revitalisation of the production and financial performance of the
family’s notable portfolio of agricultural estates. Mr. Frescobaldi showed an obvious enthusiasm
for agriculture even in his childhood and began his activities in the family business quite early. Mr.
Frescobaldi read agriculture at the University of Florence, then got a degree at the University of
California, Davis, one of the best schools in the world for viticulture and enology.
Olivier Mellerio • Chairman, Mellerio dits Meller, France
Mr. Mellerio represents the fourteenth generation of their family business of 401 years, the world’s
oldest jewellers and France’s oldest family business known as Europe’s “Jeweller of the Queens”. Mr.
Mellerio is based in Paris, with branches in Luxembourg and Japan. The family started trading in
Le Louvre palace with Queen Marie de Médicis and with Versailles under the patronage of Queen
Marie Antoinette. They are behind a lot of royal jewels around the world and e.g. the men’s singles
trophy awarded at the French Open and the FIFA Ballon d’Or.
Dr. Percy Barnevik • Co-founder, Hand in Hand
Dr. Barnevik has been the CEO / Chairman of ABB, Astra Zeneca, Skanska, Sandvik and Investor
(Wallenberg group), as well as a board member of General Motors and DuPont. He has also been
a member of the US Business Council and the Bilderberg Group. Over the past 15 years, he has
phased out of his chairmanships and has devoted his time and money to philanthropy. Hand in
Hand has started 1.4 million enterprises and aims for 10 million jobs.
Hugo & Alexandre Mulliez • Family Members, Auchan Group, France
Hugo and Alexandre Mulliez are grandsons of Gerard Mulliez, founder of Auchan. Auchan is
a French retail group with revenues in excess of €60 billion, employing over 300,000 people in 15
countries and remains owned in majority by the Mulliez family. Although Hugo and Alexandre have
both chosen to follow careers in the business environment, they are entrepreneurs at heart and have
decided to follow their passions in establishing, and being involved full-time, in their own ventures
instead of joining their family’s company. Alexandre is now back to the family group and heads up
the Marketing and Development & Innovation at AuchanDirect.
Andrea Prym-Bruck • Archives Director, Prym Group, Germany
Mrs. Prym-Bruck is a nineteenth generation member of the Prym Family, one of the oldest
entrepreneurial families in the world, the oldest in Germany. Today’s Prym Group, run by the
Prym Family for fourteen generations, was founded in 1530 and has its head office in Germany
near Cologne. Production facilities are located around the globe, being a leading global supplier of
creative sewing products, needlework and fashion accessories, retrievable press fastening systems and
accessories to the textile industries as well as a leading provider for material and surface technology,
micro fine pressing technology and mechatronics. Mrs. Prym-Bruck engages in several foundations.
Count Lorenzo Rossi di Montelera • Chairman, Gestofi, Switzerland
Dr. Rossi di Montelera is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Birks Group”, a company in the
jewellery sector, based in Canada and South East USA, with seventy stores and a turnover of some
$300mn. Dr. Rossi also serves as a Board Member of Azimut S.p.A (motor yachts builder) and had
several managerial positions up to Executive Committee Member at the Martini & Rossi Group, the
company owned by the family until 1992. Later Dr. Rossi still held his Board Membership at the
Bacardi Martini Group until 2008.
