about Trauma Support Services of North Texas, Inc. (TSSNT)
and will introduce one of its survivors. An invitation has been
issued to other Kiwanians from Division 1.
June 15, Chad Pendley will be the guest speaker at the
Satellite Meeting at Blue Mesa. Chad is on the Steering
Committee for Dirty Scurry and is in charge of Sponsorships.
July 6, Juanita Holquin, Education Director at North Fort
Worth Boys & Girls Club (where we have a BUG program),
will conduct a tour of its facility for our first meeting in July.

for approximately 1 hour. Watch for evite and RSVP!
August 3, we will welcome Becky Rasbeary, Volunteer
Services Manager, and Barbara Shelton, Chief Development
Officer, from ACH Child and Family Services, who will tell us
about their organization and what types of volunteer activities
they have.

This year, a new Key Club has been chartered by our club:
Green B. Trimble Technical High School (Trimble Tech) in
downtown Fort Worth. To celebrate the chartering of this new
Key Club, we will be holding a pizza party on Monday, June 8.
The party will be during lunch hour from 11:30 AM to 12:30
PM in Faculty Advisor Joy Perry's classroom, (#108). Evite emailed on June 2. Hope some of you can join us!

A repeat of a favorite service project. Join Kiwanians as they
prepare and serve dinner to the families at the Ronald
McDonald House as part of the Meals from the Heart program.
The menu will be Pioneer Woman’s Chicken Pot Pie, salad and
cookies for dessert. Evite e-mailed on June 2. Space is limited,
so sign up!
Back-to-School Shopping at Sears
Join us on two Saturdays in August at 8 AM, as
we take 20 children from the North Fort Worth
Boys & Girls Club and 20 children from Diamond
Hill Elementary School shopping for new clothes
at Sears-Hulen Mall.
We will need as many volunteers as possible to make this
day a success! As you know, this service project is funded by
the Kiwanis Services Foundation and benefits those children
who need new uniforms and other necessities to begin the new
school year. Watch your e-mail for details and sign up!

Great News from Paschal High School Key Club
The Paschal High School Key Club was busy in early April attending the Texas-Oklahoma
District Key Club Convention (DCON). The hard work of the officers and club members
throughout the year earned them a Top 25 club status in the district out of more than 300
clubs, specifically #19. The Paschal High School Key Club also won Distinguished Club,
Governor’s Project Participant, and Outstanding On-Time Reporting Award. Sarika Sabnis
was a talent show finalist, and Paul Ryu made the quiz bowl team where Texas came out
victorious over Oklahoma! Included is a group picture from DCON and another with
Junsung Lee, immediate past president, with Janet Diaz, immediate past secretary, holding
up all of Key Club’s patches. —Heather Denton, Faculty Advisor
News from a past Key Clubber: I had a call from Sai Gourisanker last week. He is
graduating from UT, then the next week will be leaving on the Texas 4000 bike ride from
Austin to Anchorage, Alaska. The ride will be stopping in Rowlett on June 2, and they will
give a presentation about fighting cancer and raising funds for research that evening at 6602
Garner Road at 6 PM. Since the foundation has donated funds for the event, I thought you
might be interested in that tidbit! —Jayne Naff, Club Advisor
Terrific Kids at Diamond Hill Elementary
More than 200 Terrific Kids were awarded certificates, bumper stickers, pencils and treats at
the Terrific Kids programs that were conducted at the end of each 6-week period of this
school year. Principal Marlyn Martinez and School Counselor Mary Bentley are huge
supporters of the program and work hard with these students and their teachers to help
these Terrific Kids attain their goals. Pictured below are photos from some of these award
ceremonies.

Texas Ramp Build
23rd Annual AIDS Walk
Three of us (Dennis McCarty,
Beverly Ford from the Texas
Ramp Project, and I) built a 20foot ramp at a home in East Fort
Worth. It was a lot of work (those
thick plywood sheets are really
heavy), but very rewarding. We
started shortly after 8:30 AM and
finished up just before 1:00 PM.
Kiwanians set up an information table at AIDS Walk 2015 in
Trinity Park on Saturday, March 21. Quite a few attendees
visited our table, and some good connections were made with
community volunteers. Thanks, Donna, Jill, and Mike for
sharing the Kiwanis story!
And then Dennis and I made it
over to the Relay for Life to make
it a full Kiwanis project day!

American Cancer Society
Relay for Life
Kiwanians and friends volunteered for the Relay for Life event
at TCU to support team ADVOCATES FOR A CURE. Mike
brought in extra hands to help sell pizza and raise funds for
the American Cancer Society. Below are some comments by
Kiwanians:
The Relay for Life is a very special and emotional event. Just
hate I couldn't stay longer. Cancer is a strong disease, and
we all have had someone in our life affected by it. Medicine
has come a long way in treating it, but there is still work to be
done, so the money is greatly needed. —Donna Kittrell
Very well said and to the point. We need to support these
programs or they won't be there to end the catastrophic

Wesley Mobile Pantry
On March 28 and May 23, Kiwanians and Key Clubbers
volunteered at the Wesley Mobile Pantry. Below are thank-you
e-mails to our club from United Community Centers, Inc.,
which sponsors this monthly outreach effort in a north Fort
Worth community:
At the March 28 mobile pantry, it was a beautiful spring day
made special by having served 379 households. Your
assistance was greatly appreciated. —Pablo Calderon
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of our wonderful volunteers who
came out Saturday morning to Wesley Mobile Pantry!! In total,
we had 80 volunteers show up to help us unload trucks and
serve the community. YOUR HELP made an impact in serving
971 individuals, 275 households and 10,000 pounds of

March, April, May 2015 in review continued . . .
The Dirty Scurry Adventure Run
On Saturday, April 25, Kiwanians, friends, and Paschal Key
Clubbers joined volunteers from all over the DFW area at
LaGrave Field to support Dirty Scurry in its Adventure Run,
benefitting Cook Children's Medical Center. More than 1,300
kids participated in the 1.2 mile Adventure Run, while younger
children played in bounce houses and had faces painted. Our
Kiwanis Services Foundation was a sponsor by contributing a
monetary donation earlier this spring, and members manned
an information table at the Run. Key Clubbers helped in the
kids‘ area.
A week before the big event, Kiwanians volunteered at PT
Fitness on Northside Drive to help stuff packets for the kids’
run. Great event for a great cause. —Cheri Scharringhausen

2014-15 Sophomore of the Year
Ishita Sneha Kumar
At the Monday, May 4, club meeting, the Kiwanis
Services Foundation recognized Ishita Sneha Kumar
with a certificate of recognition and scholarship for
being selected as the club’s Sophomore of the Year. She
was selected from all the applicants from the sophomore
class at Paschal High School. Standing with Ishita are
Katie Holland and James Bretthauer, faculty advisors of
the Key Club at Paschal High School.
